I thought it was sweat beads till I turned and to my utter dismay
my freshly ironed white shirt has been stained by this kid's strawberry
vanilla popsicle, the popsicle now an emulsion flowed down my shirt
forming a pattern on my shirt, I could literally feel tears welling up my eyes already
the cold and sticky feel of the melted popsicle slowly flowing down my shoulder broke my heart already my day was summarized in one word
Ruined!!!, This is one of those situations that make you wish you are in Disney or have a superpower of some sort preferably drycleaning power at the moment Or somehow this was a really bad dream but it wasn't because I blinked hard for minutes and the pink irregular and funny looking pattern formed by the strawberry vanilla popsicle was still in my shirt, I had to remind myself that I am a 25-year-old and I could not burst out crying on public transport but man!! it was so hard holding those hot tears back, like why did it have to be today of all days to be unlucky.
how was i supposed to meet up with this Job interview without looking
like an utter dunce who dribbled ice cream on his shirt, I groaned and turned to
look at the kid, who now wore a smirk on his rather very cute face, I could not get angry and I could not be happy too, I turned and made a face at him but the
cute little fella chuckled the more, apparently, someone was enjoying his day
Well I wasn't, the heatwave was unbearable, stuck in traffic and running late for my
job interview and sitting in this bus with a kid dripping melted popsicle on my White shirt
I felt like I had some bad luck of some sort, of all days why will it be today
I looked at the kid again, but most of my anger faded away seeing him happy and energetic
I hope he doesn't grow up and have someone drip strawberry vanilla popsicle on his shirt I said in my thoughts
his mum was still asleep, the poor woman I thought, this kid must be loads of headache
well, all kids are headaches I reasoned.
I made a clown face at him again and he laughed the more, soon I had already forgotten my
strawberry vanilla popsicle mishap and I was laughing with this energetic little kid
Soon, His mum woke up and apologized a lot for her son's behavior
I was feeling a lot better now even though I knew my job interview will probably be toast now, imagine sitting in a conference room with a board of directors who interviews you on why they should employ you to their firm and you answer with a shirt stained with
strawberry and they wonder why your shirt had to eat ice cream with you
But then, the heatwave seemed to have fried some of my brain cells because I continued my journey - I was already halfway and I was not ready to waste that transport fare
I mean, I already had too many bills piling up already
I talked some more with the kid's mum, an interesting woman I must say I even got to hold the cute little boy that destroyed my very formal shirt
somehow I still had this flicker of hope in my heart it was crazy but my
heart somehow still told me that I was going to get to my destination and that I am absolutely going to ace this interview with my awkwardly colored shirt.
At least my assailant was now my cute little friend.
The Mum and my Little Friend left the bus before me and already 5minutes late
I got to my destination, "THE HAROLD'S" tech company, A magnificent building that was sort of every young ICT graduate's dream, I stood in awe for some minutes admiring the magnificent building then I saw the mum of my little cute friend inside the company from its glass doors, what a coincidence.
I walked fast to meet her but she had already moved on, so I enquired of the elegantly dressed beautiful receptionist the direction to the conference room where my interview was supposed to be held.
Just a few miles to the conference room I could hear my name
"Mr. Kingston you may enter now"
I walked briskly in without having time to get myself together and met the eyes of about six executive members on me.
I could feel the eyes travel from my hair to my sweaty face and immediately resting on my iconic strawberry vanilla popsicle "shirt design".
I answered the questions quite accurately with a few stutters here and there but I think most of
the executives were more focused on my " shirt design"
"How did that come about" one asked (I later got to know him as Mr .Toms) pointing at my shirt, it took a little time to fill them on the rather sad details of how my shirt got a design for free
"And you didn't think to change it, since your job interview was formal" Mr toms asked yet again
I realized that it made a quite silly mistake though I mean they could take me for a joker who is not serious with getting a job, I explained the way it could and Mr toms just nodded and I was told it could leave and given the iconic "We will get back to you" Comment.
I packed up and left only to bump into my little cute friend's mum again
"it's you again"
"yeah it's me" my voice betraying my intent to sound cherry
"you have got a problem?"
"Ah! I don't want to bore you with my woe tales"
after much further pressuring, I told her about the interview
The first time I could see someone genuinely sad for me She let me hold my little friend while she walked towards the conference room with me wondering what was going on and the most amazing thing happened...
The Conference room door opened and the executives walked out into the hall, My cute little friend's mum hugged the CEO and they walked towards me.
My Little Cute Friend was Harold Jnr.
