An Adventure with Bob, Fred, and Doctor Dill Pickle

Adventure Christian Kids

Written in response to: "Your character is traveling a road that has no end." as part of Final Destination.

Once upon a time in the land of Snackville, Bob the Cheeseburger, with his cheese self and Fred the Taco with his spicy salsa, and their wise friend Doctor Dill Pickle decided to take a bus trip. They wanted to visit the Great Picnic Park, where the grass is always green, and the lemonade is always fresh.

They packed their bags (Bob made sure to bring extra ketchup) and hopped on the Snackville Express Bus. But as the wheels rolled along, something strange happened: the road kept going and going! It twisted, turned, and stretched on forever. No matter how long they traveled, the end was nowhere in sight!

Bob started singing bus songs to keep everyone cheerful. Fred tried counting clouds. Doctor Dill Pickle read Bible stories out loud, reminding everyone that God is always with us, even on the longest journeys.

After what felt like forever, Fred spotted a sign: “No End Ahead!”

“Maybe we should try something different!” said Bob. “Let’s ask God for help.”

So they all prayed together for wisdom. Suddenly, Doctor Dill Pickle remembered a shortcut from an old map. “Let’s get off the bus and follow the Path of Kindness!” he said.

They thanked the bus driver and set off on foot. But as they walked, they heard a rumble… and a herd of runaway jellybeans came bouncing down the hill! Bob dodged left, Fred dove right, and Doctor Dill Pickle spun in circles until he got dizzy and plopped down safe and sound. The jellybeans zoomed past, leaving a trail of giggles.

When the friends stopped laughing, they noticed the Path of Kindness led them straight to the Great Picnic Park. They had a wonderful day, sharing sandwiches, playing games, and giving thanks to God for guiding them.

Just as they were packing up their things to head home, a small, trembling voice called out from behind a lemonade stand. “E-excuse me… could anyone help me?”

It was a tiny Pretzel named Penny. She was twisted up in knots — even more than usual — and her eyes were full of tears. “I’ve been lost all day,” she sniffled. “I can’t find my way back to Snackville, and I’m all alone.”

Bob, Fred, and Doctor Dill Pickle looked at one another. Without even saying a word, they all smiled and walked right over.

“You’re not alone anymore,” said Fred warmly, wrapping a friendly taco arm around her shoulder.

“We know exactly the way home,” said Bob, pulling out his extra ketchup. “And we always travel better with more friends.”

Doctor Dill Pickle opened his old map and traced the route with his finger. “If we follow the Path of Kindness back through Cracker Canyon, we’ll be home before the streetlights come on in Snackville.”

So the four friends set off together. Along the way, they passed through Cracker Canyon, where the walls were tall and golden, and their footsteps echoed like music. Penny started to feel much better. She even began to hum a little song, and soon everyone joined in.

But then WHOOOOSH, a great big gust of wind came sweeping through the canyon and blew Bob’s favorite ketchup bottle right out of his hand! It tumbled and rolled and bounced off a rocky ledge, landing on a narrow little shelf far below.

“Oh no!” Bob cried.

“We can get it!” said Fred, already looking for a way down.

“Wait,” said Doctor Dill Pickle gently. “Sometimes the things we love most end up in hard-to-reach places. But that doesn’t mean we give up. It means we work together.”

Doctor Dill Pickle found a long vine hanging from the canyon wall. Fred held one end, Penny held the middle, Bob grabbed the vine, and carefully lowered himself down — just far enough to scoop up the ketchup bottle with a triumphant cheer.

“TEAMWORK!” they all shouted, and their voices echoed through the canyon three times over.

By the time they climbed back up to the path, the sun was turning pink and orange in the sky, painting Cracker Canyon in the most beautiful colors any of them had ever seen.

“God made that too,” Penny said softly, staring up at the glowing sky.

“He made all of it,” said Doctor Dill Pickle with a warm smile. “The park, the path, the jellybeans, and even the wind that blew Bob’s ketchup away. He has a plan for everything.”

They walked the rest of the way home under that glowing sky, laughing and talking and sharing the last of Bob’s ketchup on a bag of crackers Fred had tucked in his bag.

When they finally reached Snackville, Penny turned to her new friends with shining eyes. “I was so scared when I was lost,” she said. “But now I know — even when you don’t know the way, God sends people to walk with you.”

Bob grinned. Fred did a little happy taco dance. And Doctor Dill Pickle simply nodded, the way wise pickles do.

“Same time next week?” said Bob.

“Absolutely,” said everyone, including Penny.

And somewhere out there, the Snackville Express Bus was already rolling along the road that never ends

THE END

What Can You Learn from This Story?

At times, life can feel like an endless road, but remember to stay hopeful, seek God's assistance, and explore new routes. Psalms 32:8 states: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you [who are willing to learn] with My eyes upon you."

Having faith and trust in God is important. When the journey appears long and confusing, friends can come together in prayer and gain insight. This story illustrates that when we are uncertain about our paths, we can always rely on God for direction.

Don't lose heart when challenges arise. Doctor Dill Pickle reminds us with his saying, "It means we work together," that obstacles should not detour us; instead, they are opportunities to find another route.

Even when things get crazy (like bouncing jellybeans!), remember to laugh and trust that God has a plan. Being kind and helping each other can lead to great adventures!

Jeweliz, your story is absolutely amazing! I believe that you should have this published as a children's book and write more sequels to it! The characters are portrayed in great detail for vivid imagination. I envisioned the whole story from beginning to end. This book brings forth life lessons that are so simple and ties them to the Word of God and a relationship with Him. Keep on writing! So proud of you!!
