-Mini story-

Alanna, a little girl with a best friend who were so close, they called each other siblings. His name was Lucas. Every day they would go out, explore, have fun, play, sometimes get into trouble, and most of all, Imagine. One day they were in Alanna's backyard as they were playing with a ball, the ball flew across the yard to the neighbor's backyard. Lucas and Alanna looked at each other, Alanna said "Maybe I should climb over the fence again." a bit excited, she had always been adventurous and daring, "Remember last time we climbed the fence?" Lucas asked. The last time they climbed the fence, Lucas helped Alanna up, Alanna was reaching for the edge of the fence, and pushed herself to the neighbor's yard, Landing in the neighbor's new plants. Lucas was on the fence, -since they agreed he needed to be there to help her back up- face was a mixture of surprise, and nervousness. The neighbors came out and saw Alanna covered in dirt and their new plants destroyed, along with Lucas on their fence. In the end, the neighbor's called the parents, then, Alanna and Lucas were grounded for 2 days.

Alanna then spoke up "Well... Do you have any better ideas??" "Actually, yes I do," Lucas replied "We can just go to the neighbor's door and ask for our ball." (Alanna was thinking about this. It will be less fun, but it's WAY better than getting in trouble like last time...) "Alright, fine. I guess..." They started making their way towards the neighbor's front door, and then they knocked. The neighbor answered, "Do you kids need anything?" "Uh, yeah, we kind of accidentally threw the ball over the fence and into your yard... and uh, can you get it for us please?" Lucas asked. The neighbor went into the backyard and handed the ball the Alanna and Lucas. "You kids need to stop getting into trouble, or you are both going to keep getting grounded." The neighbor frowned. The kids nodded and thanked the neighbor for helping, knowing they would most likely keep causing trouble.

They kept on playing and going on 'adventures' every day. Until... Lucas had to move. "Why are you moving?" Alanna asked, her voice a bit raised. "My dad's job is moving so he has to go to but-" Lucas said but got interrupted. "Why can't you and your mom stay??" Alanna added, trying to persuade him into not leaving. "Or maybe, you can live with us! we can go on adventures every day! We can never stop pla-" "I can't Alanna. I Need to go with my parents, I will try to visit though..." Lucas said, cutting Alanna off, who was now visibly sad. It was quiet and there was tension between the two of them, then suddenly Lucas' mom called him as they finished loading the trunk. "Lucas! come on we have to go!!" She shouted. "Okay going mom!" He shouted back, he then turned his head back to Alanna. "I have to go now... I promise I will visit!!" He tried cheering her up, Alanna looked up, then held out her fist "Best friends" Lucas then gave her a fist bump "Forever" Then smiled warmly. as he was walking away, he called out to her "I will visit!!" he walked away as he was waving. The day he comes back and visits, we will do this again. She told herself, as she waved back.

-A few years later-

Alanna was now in middle school, she walked into the school -Which was filled with noise- Students everywhere, Alanna pushed through people to get to her locker. After she closed her locker, she was walking to her first class. Science, but then suddenly, she saw a familiar face... Almost too familiar. Then she recognized the eyes, the hair, and the face. It was Lucas. Now having a bright smile on her face, she quickly made her way through the students, rushing towards Lucas. She tripped over someone's backpack and landed right in front of Lucas. He turned around and looked at her, as he was about to offer her a hand to help her up, She quickly scrambled up to her feet with a huge grin on her face. "Lucas??" She asked, relieved, but also surprised. Lucas just looked at her. "Uhh-" Alanna suddenly put her fist out and said, "Best friends." She smiled. "Excuse me, do I know you??" Lucas said as he looked to her, then her fist, visible confused. Alanna froze, she brought her fist back as she was no longer smiling. She cleared her throat and said "Probably not. Sorry, you seemed familiar." She looked down and walked away before he could say anything.

Of course he didn't remember me, he never wrote, or visited, like he promised, its been years. But how could he? After all the time we spent together and what we did, why?? Alanna was walking away, turned back to look at Lucas, gave a tiny smile and waved. Trying to hold back her tears. He gave a slight smile, yet Alanna could see the lingering confusion in his eyes. She turned back and started walking back to her class. A mixture of emotions she felt. Happy that she got to see him, embarrassed that she tripped, Mad that he didn't know who she was, but most of all... Hurt that all their memories were now lost. She turned back to Lucas once again and saw him with his new friend. She sighed and continued walking to her class. How could he have gotten a new best-friend? Were we apart for that long? What should I do now? She thought to herself as she walked in the class and to her table, there was her seatmate, Elena. "Are you okay? You look like you lost the best thing in the world." "I'm fine, just tired." Alanna replied. She really did lose the best thing in the world. -Well somewhat- Her best friend.
