Walking down a back alley to avoid the crowds of people, Lucas stares at the soggy ground bathed in moonlight. He stops walking when he sees a shadow appear at his feet. Zade is standing a few feet in front of him with anger drawn on his face.
“Z… I've been looking for you guys. I got lost in the crowds and you weren't at the meet up spot.” Lucas says his voice shaking like the trees
“LOST?” Zade yelled not hiding his anger
“Yeah … the crowds…” Lucas starts
“You didn't get lost!” Zade cuts Lucas off “you sold us out to the guard!” Zade takes a step closer
“No I would never do that, I, I, where are the others. Once we get outside the borders I’ll explain everything.” Lucas pleads
“They’re gone!” pure rage filling his voice “how long have you been feeding information to the guard?” Zade takes another step closer, this time Lucas takes a step back
“What?” Both men stand breathing in the wet air. “What do you mean they're gone?”
“The guard was waiting for us at the mausoleum. They've all been captured by the guard taken gods knows where” another step closer
“They can't all be gone, we just have to think of where they would go…” Lucas is cut off again
“NO!” Lucas draws a blade from his pocket as Zade’s anger grows “Rowan, Victor… Ember…” the pain in Zade's voice saying the names of his closest friends and his girlfriend is all too apparent for the moment he’s standing in. He takes another step closer to Lucas making them inches apart.
“Ember’s been captured?” Lucas, clearly shaken by the news not realizing how close Zade has gotten “I never meant for this to happen, they said…”
“You didn’t mean for this to happen? What did you think they were going to do tell us to stop then let us go on our merry way? You’re not that naive Luc!” Zade had never used Lucas’s nickname before.
In the very next breath Zade shoved Lucas backwards hard. Lucas is unable to keep his footing and falls to the concrete pavement. As his head hits the ground with a hard smack, he drops the blade he pulled seconds earlier, the noise echoing in Lucas’s head as his eyes close involuntarily. Seconds have passed when he opens his eyes expecting to see Zade standing over him, to his surprise Zade hasn't moved an inch. As Lucas lays on the concrete he remembers Zade has never been a violent man but that was when he was surrounded by his people. The people he’d chosen to be his family, something Lucas had almost felt he was a part of before tonight. Then a thought occurs to Lucas as he props himself up on his elbows.
“If the guard was there waiting for you… how did you make it out? Why didn't they take you like they took the others?” Lucas’s breathing is heavy as his head spins still disoriented.
Shadows are dancing across Zade's face from the moon. He is quiet for a long moment, then his hands move in the dark. Lucas suddenly screams out in pain, falling back to the ground, he looks back at Zade still in the same spot as before except his hands are out in front of him now. Lucas can feel the blood in his veins grow hotter by the millisecond, Lucas screams again as Zade’s hands fall back to his sides, his cloak gently moving with the motion. As Zade’s hands fall Lucas’s blood returns to normal.
“You never answered my question” Lucas drags himself from the floor, eyes scanning the ground for his lost blade as Zade rushes him and hits him square across the jaw with a closed fist.
“It’s you. You're the one they're looking for!” Lucas exclaims as he spits blood onto the rain soaked ground.
Zade does nothing other than throw another hit, this time landing at Lucas’s cheekbone. This time Lucas was expecting it, giving a return blow that landed at Zade’s chin. Zade however does not stumble. Years of fighting have built up his tolerance to pain.
“How long have you been a blood bender?” Lucas questions, real curiosity in his voice.
“The Guard calls it Hemokinesis. But I'm sure you knew that already since you're such good friends.” Zade’s anger clouding his head.
“Z please it’s not like that i swear!” Lucas puts his hands up in defense
At Lucas’s plea Zade loses all composure and tackles Lucas to the ground. The moment Lucas's back hits the ground the sky opens a downpour on the city. Rain pelts Zades back as he puts his hands around Lucas’s neck, squeezing as Lucas struggles to get free. Lucas manages to squeeze his leg between them and kicks Zade off of him. As he scrambles to his feet his abandoned blade catches the moonlight. Zade, disoriented from the blow, tries to come to his feet just as Lucas plunges the blade into his stomach. Blood and rain mixing on Lucas’s hand. Zade grabs Lucas's shoulder to stabilize himself and the two lock eyes. Lucas grabs Zade's shoulder to keep him upright
“I love her just as much if not more than you do.” Tears well in Lucas’s eyes
“When are you going to stop lying” Zade drops his eyes to the ground, breathing ragged. His wet hair falling around his face.
“She’s my sister! I wouldn’t do anything to hurt her on purpose” tears fall from Lucas’s eyes mixing with the rain as it falls to the ground “if, if we work together we can find where they took her… where they took them and we can get her back… them I…” lucas stops as zade’s eyes rise to meet his. Blood is dripping from his mouth, he has a cheshire cat grin on his face but the rage behind his eyes is still present. Lucas looked to see the knife had been removed from Zade's stomach but no blood gushed from the wound. He felt something move around his ankles. He looked down to see a rope made of blood, Zade’s blood, curling into a tightening knot. A second rope trapped his wrists. In the next second the ropes tightened around his ankles and wrists and he fell to the floor tied like cattle.
“Don’t worry you're going to help me find them.” holding the end of the rope Zade turned and headed for the edge of the city dragging Lucas's struggling body behind him.
