Trigger warning; mentions of violence, murder, drugs, and childhood trauma.
She opened her eyes in a haze. Where was she? Last she remembers, she was trying to get the microchip and now she’s here. Her hands were tied behind her back. She tucked her head to her shoulder feeling for her earpiece. She felt it against her shoulder, god these clothes are thin. She looked down and she appeared to be wearing a hospital gown. She heard a little ‘beep’ from her earpiece, notifying her it’s on. She silently cheered and started speaking.
“Elio? I don’t know where I’m at? I remember going to get the microchip and now I’m trapped in this room. Can the team track me and come pick me up, I’m sure I can escape” The second she started speaking, she swore she could almost hear him freeze. What’s the big deal? It’s only been a few days at most.
“Where have you been..?” His voice was shaky, almost on the verge of breaking.
“Elio It’s only been a few days, what’s-”
“Shut up! Now is not the time to joke. It has been two years. Two. twenty-four months.”
Her eyes widened in horror as he snapped. Two years? What the hell?
“I’m not joking- I had no clue. I thought I’d only been here a few hours- a few days at most.” She said shakily.
What is going on? This is starting to get weirder. She didn’t like this.
“Hey! Elio, why are you using your old earpiece?” Lily questioned.. She must’ve seen he was active.
“Lily? Is that you?” She choked out shakily. She swore she heard her drop whatever she was holding and gasp.
“Madeline?..” Her voice wavered.
“What the hell is going on.. Come to these coordinates as soon as possible. I’m roughly in this area, come quick. I don't know what's going on.” She exhaled shakily. She didn’t know what was going on but it’s weird.
“On our way, be there in five,” Elio muttered, snapping out of the state of absolute shock he was in from hearing her voice. He ran to the boss’s office, not bothering to knock.
“Ah Elio, my dear, you could at least knock.” Elio cut him off.
“I have Madeline’s coordinates.” The boss’s face turned serious.
“How? Where is she? Is she safe?” The boss stood up and called Charlie while Elio explained what he seemed to gather.
“She’s in an abandoned warehouse, using her old earpiece to communicate. Though the real scary part is, she said she only had been there for a few hours to a few days. Not two years. She’s just now woke up in a hospital gown, empty room minus the chair she’s sitting in.” Elio explained. He was jumpy, ready to go find Madeline and tear the bastard's head off that took her.
“Oh my.. Look, you are going to take Madeline’s car to get her. It’s bulletproof, and I hardly allow her to drive it. Black lizard will go in a separate car tailing you, if things go to shit, call our demon prodigy,” the boss smirked, with a hint of sociopathic tone to it, sending shivers down Elio’s spine.
“On it boss.” Elio left as the boss tossed him the keys.
He sprinted down the flights of stairs, too impatient for the elevator. He made it to Madeline's car, as he got on the road he noticed black lizard behind him. He sped down the highway to her coordinates
“Ugh this place is horrible,” she muttered to herself. She shuffled in her chair, finally snapping the rope tying her hands. She rubbed her wrists and pressed her earpiece.
“Elio? Can you hear me?” She whispered, being cautious.
“Madeline? Shit I’m so sorry, It’s strange hearing your voice. I thought you were ..” He didn’t wanna finish that sentence.
“I broke my hands free, that rope was old and on its last leg. I’m surprised it still held my hands. I haven’t seen or heard anything. It’s eerily quiet. My back shoulder stings too.” She sighed.
“Alright, listen I’m on my way, Black lizard is tailing us. I’m about five minutes out.”
Elio said, his heart was racing.
“I feel so weird. Like different.” She sighed. Her body felt exhausted even though apparently she’s been ‘asleep’ for two years. She noticed the amount of scars, bruises and burns. Some memories came flooding back.
“Are you gonna tell us where the monster is?” A man yelled in her face, spit evident. She struggled to lift her head up as she met his eyes.
“In your dreams bastard.” She spat in his face. She felt the burn of the hot iron on my thigh as she let out a loud scream.
“Tell us what you know about him!” She scoffed and laughed.
“You aren’t getting anything on him! You tested him as a child! You tested on a child! You sick bastards ruined-” She let out a scream as she felt the taser against her neck. This went on for hours and hours every day until they put her to sleep and did something.
“Madeline! Can you still hear me?!” Elio was yelling. She hadn’t spoken in 5 minutes.
“Yeah, Yeah I can hear you.” She let out a shaky breath. “Elio, go home.” She said quickly.
“What? No, I'm almost here.” Elio scoffed.
“Elio, it's a trap! They want you to come here. They were asking me about you. They questioned me for hours, until they put me to sleep. I didn’t say anything. They are using me to get what they want, they want you.” She explained quickly.
Elio couldn’t speak. The same people that tested on him as a kid? The people who took away his childhood, who made him question if he was even human, the same people who made him like this. He was livid. She was his best friend. She was his person and he’d be damned if he’s letting her go.
“I’m too close to turn around. I’m gathering everyone now, train in any way you can. Prepare yourself to fight. I’m coming for you Madeline.”
She sighed. They weren’t letting her go so easily. Which is fair, once mafia, always mafia, they’re all family.
“Alright. I’m gonna look for some weapons, my shoulder stings, like I just got a tattoo.”
“Wait- check your shoulder.” Elio said sternly.
She gave him an “uhh” and tried to check her shoulder.
“930? No wait, it's upside down 630. Then some barcode thing.”
Elio’s heart dropped. No, this was all his fault. They had tested on her. They must’ve done the same thing to her.
“Uhm Why Elio?” She asked gently. She could hear the pain in his voice.
“Madeline, kill anyone you encounter, don't bother for info, kill them.” Elio’s voice was stern and cold.
“Elio, what does this mean?” She yelled, demanding an answer.
“It means they tested on you! They could’ve put something in your body, just like they did with me! My tattoo is 349.” Elio sighed angrily.
What? That would add to the reasoning on why she feels so weird… and they were questioning her about him. The tattoo adds up too. Damnit. She looked around the building when she ran into two men.
“She’s awake!” One of the men yelled.
“There’s two men, Hurry your ass up. It’s time to have some fun.” She smirked at the two men as she ran and slid past them, grabbing their ankles, knocking them to the ground. She got up with ease as they stared at her. Does she have a new ability? Or will it be like Elio’s corruption? She needs to be careful.
She ran into the room next to her in search of paper and a pencil, she saw their name tags. She can use that to her advantage. She scribbled their names down quickly as they ran in pointing guns at her. I held up the dolls of them and bent their arms back making the guns face them, she forced them to hand her their guns. She killed both of them with a snap of her fingers, literally. She laughed as they fell. She found some spare guard clothes. She changed into a black button up, some slacks, a pair of white socks and black shoes. She had a suit jacket on, as she tied my hair up to look more professional. She put on the guards' glasses and earpiece along with her own and a keycard.
“Madeline, we're coming in now.”
“Alright. I’ll try to find you guys, look. I’m wearing a black button up, slacks, sunglasses with the crew's earpiece, a suit coat, and my hair is tied up, I blend in. To be sure if it’s me or not, do something only I’d know how to reply to.” She said looking around for Elio and the rest, instead she ran into more guards, she played it calmly.
“Someone is in the building, they killed Eliijah and Josh.” She stated the guards names as they nodded and told her to keep a lookout. They didn’t notice. They walked past her as I laughed and shot them both.
“Too easy” She strolled down the hall confidently as she ran into Elio.
“Elio!” She ran and jumped on him.
“I..” She could tell he wanted to check if it was her, but he just knew.
She wrapped her arms around his neck as she jumped and wrapped her legs around his waist. They stayed like that for a minute.
“We need to get out, like now.” Elio said, setting her down.
Killing everyone wasn’t the main focus, it was a side task that was necessary. The goal was to get her out safely. They ran down the halls, catching up with Black lizard. They made it out into the parking lot. Snow falling on them. They all piled into cars, as guards followed out. They sped out before the guards could catch up.
They all breathed heavily as they sped down the road, slowly calming down. She looked out the window, seeing the snow fall heavily. This was the first time she’s seen snow in two years. It was beautiful. At that moment, she knew. It would be okay.
