What’s going on? What’s that light? I like the dark and I like it here. Leave me here. Its not too hot and it’s not too cold and everything smells wonderful. It’s just right. Who’s touching my toe? Stop grabbing me. Is that you Patch?
No, it’s not me Kit. Maybe it’s biscuit?
If it is, just stop it! Ouch. Sharp pain. Leave me here.
Rob he’s not coming out. I think I need to call the vet again.
What’s a Rob and a vet? I’m not going out there. It hurts my eyes and ears and it’s nice and warm in here. I need to stay here to protect the others. After all I am the big brother. I’m the main man. The leader of the pack. I refuse to go anywhere. What’s that constant noise?
Can you grab my phone, Rob? It’s just there on the sofa. I’m going to call the vet again. Hello, it’s Judy Orchard again here. I’m a bit worried that mum is struggling and I can’t seem to reach in far enough. Yes, she’s making those deep gurning noises. Yes, that too and she seems ready to push. Ok I’ll try and be patient. I just don’t want her to suffer for any longer than she must. Ok I’ll call if any change and I’m concerned. Thanks Paz. Paz said she could be holding on as there may be more pups than we expected. She wants to make sure they’re fully cooked. Come on Milly, you can do this…oh here we go….
No. No. I’m nice and warm in here. Stop pinching me. Oh, it looks like it’s my time. See you brothers and sister. I hope I see you all on the other side.
Bye Kit...we love you....
And here we go. Welcome to the world little one. You are a beauty. You've even got a beauty spot on the back of your head. Come on I need to hear a squeak.
What’s a squeak? Oh, I’m so drowsy and why is it so bright? I’m not opening my eyes. It’s the snatcher. The snatcher has me. Oh no. I’m never going to see my brothers and sisters again.
Oh no why’s he not responding? Rob, he’s not moving.
Give him a little rub. You know like we did with Bear. Put him alongside mum and he’ll latch on.
Why am I being prodded? Yes, I agree put me alongside mum. I want my mummy.
It didn’t work. I’m calling Paz again. I don’t know what’s going on. Hi, it’s Judy here again. He’s not responding. Yes, I’ve rubbed him. I’ll give him a pat and clear his mouth. Rob, can you do that? Yes, that’s working. Oh yes, he’s starting to move. Thank you, Paz. You are a superstar supervet!
What’s all the noise? Ooh that’s good I feel I can have a little stretch. Squeak squeak.
There we go, welcome to the world little one. I’m your other mummy. What shall we call him Rob?
You’re not my mummy. Where’s your fur? Where’s your wet nose? You look nothing like me. I have a name. I’m the main man.
Lucky to be alive?
Yes, perfect Rob. Lucky. Lucky, you meet your mum, Millie. Well done, Milly. You beautiful girl. You can do it, just a few more to go.
Where am I? I just want to be warm. Oh, that’s better. I’m next to mum. Nice and warm again. Suckle suckle. That’s better. And relax. I feel so sleepy.
And welcome to the world. What shall we call these…
It’s got to be Maverick, Goose and Iceman.
Ok Mr Top Gun fanatic….oh here comes another… and now we have a girl.
Here’s Penny. She was missing Maverick.
Who’s that? Hey, stop trying to budge me. Oh, it’s you guys. I’m relieved to see you. I don’t know who maverick, goose, iceman and Penny are? Hi Benny, biscuit, patch and willa.
Hi Kit. We're happy to see you.
And welcome to the world maverick, goose, iceman and Penny. goodness they’re coming fast now. Chase, Zuma and Rubble…oh and Honey.
No that’s Whizz, Fizz, Dix and Sal.
Do you think that’s it Rob? I’m shattered. They’re all latching fine so I’m just going to leave them and go to bed now. I’ll be up at 4 with Thomas so will pop down then.
Night my darling and congratulations human mummy.
Thank you. They’re beautiful. Great job Milly.
Woah this space is getting crowded. Can you move along. Guys I’d love a bit more space. Wait a minute. We’re not all here…where are Pip, Ollie, Oat and Tricks? Oh this milk is great I feel so sleepy…
Morning pups. Oh, my goodness there are four more. That's incredible. Well done mummy.
Rob Rob, there are four more. Thomas can you go and tell Daddy?
Puppies!
I know aren’t they beautiful.
I want them all and I want to play with them now. Can I bring down my Lego?
No Lego Thomas. they need to be with their mummy and no prodding.
I want to hold them now…..
No Thomas. Don't try and lift them. I’ll take you upstairs to your room if you don’t behave.
Ok mummy. Can we keep them all?
We can keep one but we can’t have them all. They’ll be here for a few months. Ok let’s leave them to sleep.
This isn’t too bad. I’ve got my brothers and sisters with me. I’ve got mummy near me and it’s nice and warm. Squeak. Suck suck…so sleepy.
Morning puppies
Oh it’s the Rob. At least he’s a bit quieter than the Thomas. What’s he got there? What’s he doing to us?
Sorry pups, I just need to put this little tag around your neck so we know who you are.
Oh that’s not too bad.
Keep going pups.
8 weeks later.....
Life here is pretty good. I’ve got my mum, my brothers and sisters who can be annoying at times especially when we’re all hungry. They seem to barge me out of the way and I never seem to get any of those small things. They don’t taste too bad. Not as good as mummy’s milk.
It’s quite quiet here most of the time and they take us off our paws when we need to go out for something they call a ‘wee wee’ or a ‘poo poo.’ They make funny sounds when we ‘wee’ or ‘pop’. Biscuit did a wee the other day and the Rob made a sound like the one when I came to this new place. We don’t see Thomas and then he comes scampering towards us and shouting after we’ve been sleeping. What’s that noise?
And these are the puppies.
They are gorgeous. I want all of them. It's like a Dulux ad with them all rolling over each other. Adorable.
What? Why’s she picking up my little sister. Put her down. She belongs here with us. We all need to stay together with mum.
Rob, show them Lucky…
Oh my goodness. How to choose? How do you choose?
I wouldn’t go for a girl unless you want the potential pups situation.
George what do you think? Which boy? It’s so hard they’re all so adorable.
Woah what’s happening? I want to stay with mummy.. Help. I prefer to be on four paws. Oh actually that tickle was nice. The George smells nice. I’m going to lick their faces. What’s that sound? I think they like that. Lick lick.
Lucky is going to have his injections on Tuesday and then he’s good to collect.
Perfect.
Ok Lucky here we go. George can you pick him up and we’ll pop him in the car.
Where are you taking me? Hey, I want to stay with my mum and my brothers and sister
Mummy he’s shaking.
oh Lucky..it'll be ok, we're only down the road. We can come back and see mum and his brothers and sisters soon.
Please don’t take me. The last time I got in the car I ended up somewhere where they scratched me.
Welcome to your new home Jonathan.
What’s a Jonathan?
Ok George I’ll take Jonathan in. If you can go and open up.
Daddy Jonathan is here.
Oh Jonathan welcome to your new home and we'll get on fine as long as you remember who the top dog is.
