It was his eyes that frightened Megan, those deep set dark eyes, in those eyes was pure evil…pure malevolence. An evil Megan could not comprehend. It wasn’t only because Megan was petite with poor mobility that she feared him so, she wasn’t one for eye contact at the most optimistic of days, and eye contact with the Lord could prove fatal. She looked down and saw her skin turning a hue of gold, which it always did when she was frightened, so she ran. Megan knew hiding from the Lord of Ravens was futile, and yet she did just that. Cowering around the corner of an ramshackled department store, Megan takes hold of her cane and breaks it in two, transporting her to a safer environment. Megan’s thoughts drifted back to a happier time when visits to her mother lasted hours. And sadly, a time when her mother passed down a coded ring with her dying words, “You were never supposed to find out, so whatever you do, darling, don’t lose this ring! Its value to your safety is immeasurable.” Tears overcame Megan as she recounts that last time she held her mother’s hand, to hear her utter those final and loving cautionary words. The ring would have been enough to navigate her back to her sector, but foolishly Megan hid the ring back in her home sector…a critical mistake! Megan was a frightened soul, confidence was not her strong suit. Now she must think on the run, she cannot make the same mistakes she’s made before, she must be smarter. Her mind wandered to words that were spoken to her by a dear friend and sage from her childhood. With her father falling to an evil Lord when Megan was only a child, she lived under the care of both her mother and Zane…a former hermit and self educated scholar who had abilities no one was able to explain. Zane felt something deep inside megan, and it frightened him. He promised her mother he would be able to keep Megan safe. He fought to instill into Megan’s subconscious a conviction to fight for herself…and a means to telepathically contact him should the need arise…but it would take time, and patience and solitude. If only she could remember his words…it would certainly help her locate the port that beckoned her, if only she had paid closer attention to the sky screen to mark her location at that moment. If the Lord of Ravens traps her before she locates the exit port, she will be trapped in this sector, and a play-thing for the Lord of Ravens to torment forever. Megan’s power had diminished when the Dragon Lake had lost it’s quality of wishing water, the only saving grace is Megan had the foresight to bottle a single use of the powerful elixir before it was neutralized by the Lord. If the Lord finds Megan before she finds the port, or at least one of the four maidens of time in this sector, she will stay here for an eternity…and her small bag of tricks was running out. ‘You must think’ thought Megan, ‘What were the surroundings on that day?’, but her memory hadn’t fully recovered from the Lords stare at their last encounter. A Basilisk-like stare. Megan regretted the times she traded off parts of herself out of necessity for survival, but there would have always been an alternative at the time if only she was smarter or more cunning than her enemy, but Megan wasn’t like that…she wasn’t like that at all and now she must find her way without the precious emotions that would benefit her. This sector differed from her own, in that its structure can alter…deceiving her, and Megan has yet to unravel why it happens and where the core of its power comes from. Will the core give her the answer she desires? There must be a core….there must be a datum location that is the source of all this…but where? She closed her eyes and took the tiniest of sips from the wishing water…a necessary risk at this moment, but instead of transporting her to the core, Megan began to sink….sink into the earth! She spread her arms to stay her exit and spitting from her mouth, the small amounts that might still be on her tongue, she stopped her decent! Her descent has halted but she feels the Lord of Ravens presence! He is closing in upon her, she can feel it, and his aura is suffocating. Megan cannot move….she has made a critical error and the Lord looks sure to claim her as his next sycophant! Megan has one choice…she quickly downs the remainder of the wishing water, her last reserve, and sinks from sight. The Lord of Ravens screams at his own folly. A shriek that is heard throughout the sector. Losing his prey , now that he has set himself as predator, has cost him one rank. He is lost in the area cut open by the sky scimitar and all of his prey are made aware of his misfortune. The wishing water has erased Megan’s memory and placed her in front of the port she seeks. Will she use the port? She has lost love in a desperate decision, and then sought it out until she had fallen into the dark Lords sector. Her love awaits, and her soul is separated without it! She needs love and will not survive on belief or fear or mind memory alone. Love is stronger….so much stronger, and very much feared by the Lord. She is damaged as she stands in front of the port not knowing its importance to her. Megan has always had the misfortune of being nearsighted but there were more sinister forces at work playing upon her malady than she was aware of. Her eyes are open wide, but she is lost. Love is waiting without on the other side.
