Sarah Grill – Editor

Big 5 editor who read too much Nancy Drew as a kid. Thoughtful, uplifting feedback on upmarket fic, thrillers, and nonfic; inquire within!

Overview

Hi! I'm a commercially-minded developmental editor with a decade's worth of experience in the publishing world (Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, Writers House, and Alloy Entertainment). Mystery, thriller, and suspense are my sweet spot, but I've dabbled in a bit of everything over the years, from book club fiction to young adult to narrative nonfiction. My editorial wish list can best be described as "coming-of-age with a murder": smart, satisfying, big-hearted reads with some darker edges.

Digging into developmental edits is one of the best parts of my job; I love to roll up my sleeves with authors and work out the kinks of pacing, story, and character until everything shines. I can never resist a good line edit and will happily whip out a red pen for a thorough copyedit. As an editorial partner, I'm enthusiastic, eagle-eyed, and supportive of the vision you want to share with the world.

Having spent several years in the industry, I'm very aware of how "behind the curtain" traditional publishing can feel, and I'm here to help you gain insight and confidence as you prepare your manuscript, query letter, or final polish. I can't wait to see what you're working on!
