Sally Orson-Jones – Editor

I'm a literary editor, book doctor and writer’s mentor. I previously worked as a journalist and editor in the music business, but since 1997 I've worked with writers whose experience ranges from absolute beginners to published authors. The latter include Sarah Waters, Viv Albertine, Reeta Chakrabarti, Jacqueline Crooks, Sophie Haydock, Scott Bryan, Dinah Jefferies, Hayley Campbell, Penelope Tree, Grant Kempster and Michelle McDonagh. I work across all genres except Sci-fi and Children's.

I especially love the process of developing work in progress, brain-storming with authors and cracking problems. I always tell writers that once we start working together we become a team, and that’s the real joy of the job for me. Of course I'd love to work with you on your manuscript, but if you just fancy a chat to talk about any aspects of your writing, that'd be lovely too.

I was thrilled to be appointed as one of the judges for the 2022 Cheshire Novel Prize and I'm also a mentor for Black Girl Writers.
