Overview
My name is Olivia and I have a bachelor's degree in communication arts/journalism. Shortly after graduating college, I joined the field as an editor, and I have worked non-stop since then. I quickly gained experience with a few businesses, working on a wide variety of media that have all played a part in my development as an editor. I have worked on full-length books, academic journals, newspapers, and social media posts; I have worked with a number of different style guides; I have worked with native English writers and writers whose English must be polished but whose voices must still be allowed to shine through the changes; I have proofread centuries-old books in order to bring their format up to the 21st century without sacrificing their original words, spellings, or idiosyncrasies. And I am constantly looking out for new projects with new people, to help me improve in whatever areas I can!
I have loved words, reading, writing, grammar and languages since childhood, and those passions have followed me through my college experience and my career. I view editing as more than just a job — it is an opportunity for me to both expand my knowledge of the English language and to learn more about a variety of topics through the works I edit. Through the works I have edited, I have traveled the world: I have been to medieval Florence with the Medicis; I have seen the Hudson River through the eyes of Thomas Cole; I have watched the Harlem Renaissance unfurl in the poems of Claude McKay; and I have heard the voices of the French soldiers in the trenches in World War I. I cannot wait to see where my work takes me next!
