Nicola Stow

Nicola Stow – Ghostwriter

Internationally bestselling and award-nominated ghostwriter specialising in inspirational, real-life and true-crime memoirs.

Overview

I’m Nicola, an internationally bestselling and award-nominated ghostwriter, author and journalist.

I’ve ghosted a string of bestselling commercial titles across genres including narrative non-fiction, inspirational real-life memoirs, true-crime and autobiographical fiction.

As a professional ghost, I am a versatile writer who takes pride in drawing the best stories from authors and bringing their unique voices and personalities vividly to life, allowing them to engage directly with their readers without any sense that a ghostwriter was involved.

To achieve this, I work closely with every client, spending hours chatting with them – listening, observing speech patterns and nuances, and getting to know their views, likes and dislikes so I can truly ‘become’ the author on the page. Once I start writing, I share the work chapter by chapter with the author for review and feedback. The result is a polished, publishable manuscript that reflects the author’s vision in their authentic voice.

I love connecting with my clients and building a natural rapport with them that puts them at ease, and I bring that same commitment to every ghostwriting project. As TV personality Georgia Harrison, MBE, kindly said after working with me on her book Taking Back My Power: Our Bodies, Our Consent:

‘Nicola was absolutely fantastic to work with. She is a truly skilled ghostwriter who translated memories onto the page clearer than they are in my mind. I loved working with Nicola and thoroughly looked forward to each and every one of our sessions. She made the light-hearted days more fun and the times that were harder to talk about much easier to get through. A fantastic listener – and someone I now call a friend.’

I have ghosted eight commercial books for mainstream publishers including Penguin, Hachette, John Blake and Mirror Books, and authored another, The Real-life Murder Clubs: Citizens Solving True Crimes, which became a WHSmith top 50 bestseller. I have also collaborated on several other book projects.

Some books I’ve written have been translated into German, Spanish and Japanese and have received hundreds of five-star Amazon reviews and ratings, as well as serialisation in national newspapers and magazines – some attracting global headlines and television coverage. One title, Cabin Fever: The Sizzling Secrets of a Virgin Flight Attendant was shortlisted for the People’s Book Prize in 2015.

I hold a master’s degree in journalism and feature as one of the UK’s top ghostwriters in The Complete Guide to Ghostwriters, by Teena Lyons.
