Mira Park – Editor

Freelance book editor specializing in romance. I have edited historical, paranormal, contemporary, and episodic romances.

Overview

From bodice rippers to K-pop crushes, I've edited them all! My first job out of college was at Dorchester Publishing (imprints: Leisure and Love Spell books), where I learned all the ins and outs of the romance publishing industry. I was surrounded by dreamy oil paintings with Fabio in them--who wouldn't love that? After that job, I worked for a bit on culinary books at John, Wiley & Sons and then went back to romances, this time sweet ones, at Avalon Books. I spent 5 years there, both as an assistant editor and editor. Some of my authors still remember when I offered them their first book deal! I have loved seeing them flourish in their writing careers, making the USA Today and NY Times bestseller lists. Carolyn Brown, Lisa Mondello, and Kathryn Quick are just some of the great authors we discovered at Avalon.

Since July of 2021 I have been a full-time freelance book editor and my schedule has been filled with interesting work both from Reedsy and former authors I've worked with. I am also a freelance editor for Radish Fiction, an online episodic platform like Wattpad. I have edited over 150 episodes for My K-Pop Secret, a popular original romance series commissioned by Radish.

I love working on stories and helping authors bring their dreams to the page.

Work experience

Self-employed

Jul, 2021 — Present

I have edited over a million words since I started working freelance for myself in 2021. My specialty is romance and I've recently been added to the freelancer staff at Harpeth Road Press (created by bestselling author Jenny Hale). Karen Schaler is another bestselling author I've worked with recently on a Christmas romance.
I also line edit for Harlequin's Love Inspired line. When I'm not in these fictional worlds I also proofread for a few imprints of Penguin Random House: DK Publishing, Kokila, and Zeitgeist. It's really fun to learn about a variety of topics like cooking, numerology, and fitness.
Another niche I've been pulled into is editing episodic fiction for apps like Radish Fiction and a new startup called SmartBig that will be distributed by Naver/Yonder. It's always fun to be a part of something new and exciting!

Mira was wonderful in cleaning up my terrible punctuation and lack of paragraph indents. Her editorial notes were interesting and a good perspective. I did notice the items she didn't understand in the manuscript were military jargon and American idioms. She was great to work with and hope we can collaborate again.

Thank you, Dana! It was a pleasure to work with you and I hope we can work together again on another manuscript. Best of luck on all your endeavors!

Mira’s developmental edit was comprehensive and detailed. I received in-line comments and feedback plus a complete outline that also included more feedback. She took the time to ask questions to understand some of the magical elements of my manuscript to advise on how to articulate that part of the story better and other suggestions in the story’s development. A bonus was some minor line edits....

Mira was great to work with. She answered all of my questions in a timely manner (and boy did I have many) and delivered my manuscript on time. She suggested scenes that I could enhance (which I did!) and pointed out areas where one might yawn... and it didn't have anything to do with sleep. As a developmental editor, she knows her stuff and has made me a better writer. I will definitely ca...

I very much enjoyed my experience working with Mira. She was great at staying in touch and responding to my questions. Her editorial assessment letter was thorough and alerted me to issues in my manuscript that needed to be addressed during the editing stage. I would highly recommend her to anyone!
