Mira Park

Mira Park – Editor

I've worked with NY Times Bestsellers in cookbooks, romance, Christian devotionals, and children's books.

Overview

I’m a freelance book editor with 20+ years of experience in romance, cookbooks, and Christian devotionals. Recent projects include Baking Across America by B. Dylan Hollis (DK Publishing), which debuted at #2 on the New York Timesbestseller list, Mocktail Hour by Peloton coach Callie Gullickson, and She’s a Host by Erin Lichy of The Real Housewives of New York. I’ve also copyedited devotionals such as Learning How to Forgive by Chris Bailey and the upcoming Thrive with Jesus by Brittany Smigielski (both for Zeitgeist Imprint).

Before going freelance full-time in 2021, I worked at Avalon Books, which published sweet romances by authors such as Carolyn Brown, Lisa Mondello, and Kathryn Quick, who later became USA Today and New York Times bestsellers.

I also collaborate with Radish, Tapas, and SmartBig on romances in the Korean, contemporary, fantasy, and billionaire genres.

No matter the genre—romance, recipes, or devotionals—I love helping authors polish their work and bring their stories to readers everywhere.

Work experience

Self-employed

Jul, 2021 — Present
I have edited over a million words since I started working freelance for myself in 2021. My specialty is romance and I've recently been added to the freelancer staff at Harpeth Road Press (created by bestselling author Jenny Hale). Karen Schaler is another bestselling author I've worked with recently on a Christmas romance. I also line edit for Harlequin's Love Inspired line. When I'm not in these fictional worlds I also proofread for a few imprints of Penguin Random House: DK Publishing, Kokila, and Zeitgeist. It's really fun to learn about a variety of topics like cooking, numerology, and fitness. Another niche I've been pulled into is editing episodic fiction for apps like Radish Fiction and a new startup called SmartBig that will be distributed by Naver/Yonder. It's always fun to be a part of something new and exciting!

We published books geared for the library market: romance, mystery, and western genres. My boss, Erin Cartwright-Niumata and I worked with romance authors in the beginning of their careers. The most famous is Carolyn Brown, who is a top seller on the romance charts these days. Lisa Mondello and Nancy J. Parra are also now USA Today and New York Times bestselling authors. * Managed freelance staff of copyeditors, proofreaders, and artists. * Attended national writing conferences to give speeches and sit on panels

John Wiley & Sons

Jan, 1998 — Jun, 1999 (over 1 year)
* I worked for the Hospitality, Tourism, and Culinary Arts Department. We produced books for the professional chef like Professional Cooking by Wayne Gisslen.

Dorchester Publishing Company

Aug, 1996 — Jan, 1998 (over 1 year)
At Leisure Books/Love Spell, I worked with authors like Connie Mason, Leigh Greenwood, etc. and the genres of Romance, Horror, and Westerns. I evaluated manuscripts, worked with authors, and wrote back cover copy. Our book covers had Fabio on the cover!

Mira was wonderful in cleaning up my terrible punctuation and lack of paragraph indents. Her editorial notes were interesting and a good perspective. I did notice the items she didn't understand in the manuscript were military jargon and American idioms. She was great to work with and hope we c...

Mira’s developmental edit was comprehensive and detailed. I received in-line comments and feedback plus a complete outline that also included more feedback. She took the time to ask questions to understand some of the magical elements of my manuscript to advise on how to articulate that part of t...

Mira was great to work with. She answered all of my questions in a timely manner (and boy did I have many) and delivered my manuscript on time. She suggested scenes that I could enhance (which I did!) and pointed out areas where one might yawn... and it didn't have anything to do with sleep. ...

Mira has been an excellent partner in editing my books. She is professional, efficient, and knowledgeable. I have enjoyed working with her. As I continue my journey writing novels, I will definitely hire her to edit my future work. I would recommend Mira to help you develop or edit your work.
