Amanda Oraha – Editor

Copy editor and proofreader with over 10 years of experience in fantasy, action/adventure, sci-fi, romance, and cozy mysteries.

Overview

I am a freelancer editor with a bachelor's degree in English, concentration in Creative Writing. Member of ACES: The Society for Editing.

Throughout high school and college, I edited for friends and family and knew I wanted to continue. I spent five years at a law firm proofreading and fact-checking. In 2019, I took a chance and left my job to make a career out of freelance editing.

My deep love for the written word has compelled me to soak up all the knowledge I can about it. With my love of reading and years of experience editing, I offer a service stemming from my passion for polishing and perfecting the creative words of others. I want to help you elevate your writing and produce something as close to perfection as humanly possible.

Let me help you turn your manuscript into a novel.

Work experience

Aethon Books

May, 2022 — Present

Aethon Books is an independent science fiction and fantasy publisher operating out of the United States.

I started working with Aethon Books as a proofreader and began copy editing shortly after. I mainly edit fiction sci-fi, fantasy, and action/adventure (LITRPG/GameLit) for them.

Self-employed

Aug, 2019 — Present

I left my "safe job" in July 2019 to freelance when I realized that I wanted my path to be paved by the creative words of others and not contracts and legalese.

Weltman, Weinberg & Reis

Aug, 2014 — Jul, 2019 (almost 5 years)

I started this job proofreading documents and doing data entry. It gave me valuable skills and the experience necessary to become a freelancer. Skills like professional organization, working with others in a professional setting, patience, the ability to adjust when needed, and working independently without micromanagement.

Amanda is very professional. Given that I know very little of English grammar and punctuation she was able to guide me to complete my first novel.
