Sarah Liu

Sarah Liu – Editor

Editing sci-fi and fantasy since 2012. Previous work includes Marvel Untold and School of X titles. A sucker for folklore and mythology.

Overview

I started editing in 2012 with a couple of indie authors I had been fangirling over. Since then, I have steadily built my career through continuing education and expanding my client base through word of mouth. Now, I hold a master's degree, a postgraduate certificate in editing, and memberships in several professional organizations, and I am fortunate to count publishers such as Asmodee Entertainment and Penguin Young Readers among my clients.

I believe that the best editor is a fan first. The editor must be able to *hear* your voice before they can help you make it shine. This is why my editing looks different for each and every author I meet. Sometimes I can be harsh. Sometimes I am a teacher. Sometimes I am a collaborator. Sometimes I'm goofy and throw memes in the queries. I work on the books that I do because I love them, and I always feel honored to be a part of their production process. I care for each and every book I help bring into the world.

I was very impressed by Sarah. She read all the details of my emails and responded accordingly. I think that's a great quality to have in a person doing proofreading. It's reassuring not to have to point out details you've already shared. Sarah was quick and timely in her responses and accurate. She was also flexible when our timeline shifted. I found her very easy to work with and would reco...

Second time using Sarah. Absolutely professional, on time, very thorough, and I'm so grateful to have her catch not just the copy mistakes but things that don't make sense. The style guide is like a bible of my characters, events, places, weird vocabulary, and more.
