Sarah Liu

Sarah Liu – Editor

Editing sci-fi and fantasy since 2012. Previous work includes Marvel Untold and School of X titles. A sucker for folklore and mythology.

Overview

I started editing in 2012 with a couple of indie authors I had been fangirling over. Since then, I have steadily built my career through continuing education and expanding my client base through word of mouth. Now, I hold a master's degree, a postgraduate certificate in editing, and memberships in several professional organizations, and I am fortunate to count publishers such as Asmodee Entertainment and Penguin Young Readers among my clients.

I believe that the best editor is a fan first. The editor must be able to *hear* your voice before they can help you make it shine. This is why my editing looks different for each and every author I meet. Sometimes I can be harsh. Sometimes I am a teacher. Sometimes I am a collaborator. Sometimes I'm goofy and throw memes in the queries. I work on the books that I do because I love them, and I always feel honored to be a part of their production process. I care for each and every book I help bring into the world.

Sarah has been a thoughtful, professional, and conscientious collaborator, playing a crucial role in bringing my lengthy novel to completion. I am full of praise and gratitude for her work, which is often overlooked and underappreciated in the writing community. Not only did Sarah meticulously identify errors, but she also pinpointed significant narrative issues that might have otherwise gone u...

Sarah is wonderful to work with. This is my second book with her, and I will use her for the third for sure. Her comments are very helpful and the attention to detail is amazing. It's amazing how easy it is to miss your own mistakes, and she does not miss them :-)

Sarah is the second editor I have used for my novels, and her analysis exceeded my expectations. her editor's letter was detailed with specific advice including a section on character analysis. Her guidance on my writing style, with specific external references, has led to a major improvement in my handling of psychic distance in my stories. In the commented text of my novel, her comments are w...

Sarah was very responsive, easy to work with and delivered on time. The edits were very thorough, and Sarah's comments in the margins helped me learn a lot about how to write cleaner drafts in the future. A great service for great value.
