Katy Light

Katy Light – Editor

I have 12+ years experience editing post apoc/dystopian fiction, a Master’s in Creative Writing, and an extensive professional portfolio.

Overview

I am passionate about mentoring writers, both new and experienced, and helping them refine their manuscripts through the entire creative process. This includes initial idea creation, chapter outlines, plotting, and character and story arcs. I then assist the writer with developmental, copy, and line editing. I am happy to step in at any point in your creative process and help you make sure that your book is the very best that it can be.

My real-world experience as an editor across a wide variety of formats is built upon the solid foundation education I received during my Master's degree in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia, UK.

Many of the writers I have worked with have created long, ongoing series, and I can help you craft a story arc that will maximize your reader engagement and read through. However, I am equally happy working with you on a stand out standalone!

Books I have worked on have been Amazon bestsellers in highly competitive categories and genres, and I enjoy helping authors attain these goals that seem so far away at the beginning of the process. Clients include Boyd Craven III, Boyd Craven Jr., Keven Craven, David Saylor, Pete Robertucci, Mark Loren, and many more.

While post apocalyptic, dystopian, and disaster fiction represents the bulk of my client base, there is often significant crossover into military thriller, christian fiction, and / or sci fi.

In 2023 I founded a successful independent publishing company specializing in apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, and dystopian fiction, and I am currently working on a new YA dystopian series of my own.

Work experience

Raventhorne Books

Nov, 2022 — Present
Senior Editor handling acquisitions, book development, outlining, coaching, and developmental to line and copy editing for new and established authors. Post apocalyptic and dystopian fiction are the primary genres, though there are crossovers into Christian fiction and some SciFi. I have been fortunate enough to work with authors on producing in excess of 50 Amazon Bestselling novels, which has been a truly rewarding experience.

Self-employed

Jul, 1999 — Present
Real world writing knowledge gained through fifteen years of experience as both a self-employed and salaried editor combined with solid English language principles from my Masters in Creative Writing from a top UK University. My editing clients write in a wide variety of genres, and I can truly say I love the diversity of work and styles. Projects include short stories, feature blogs, and novels. As an editor, I pride myself on my ability to refine and polish the content of others while ensuring integrity of the original voice on a platform of grammatical correctness and readability. My small indie publishing company specializes in post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction, and this is the genre I write in as well, primarily focusing on the human relationships and interactions in the aftermath, rather than the event itself.

Katy was fantastic to work with! As a first-time author and indie publisher, I had a lot of questions about the process. Katy was able to help with editing, cover art, formatting, and more. She was instrumental helping me get my book uploaded to KDP and the launch couldn't have been smoother. ...
