Lindsay Humphreys

Lindsay Humphreys – Editor

A professional editor with specialized education and over 17 years of experience, 10 of which were spent in-house at a major book publisher.

Overview

A lifelong lover of reading and books, I majored in English at university and later graduated with honors from Centennial College's exclusive post-grad Book & Magazine Publishing program (with a focus on editing). I went on to work in various editorial capacities at a major book publisher for 10 years before branching out and working for myself as a freelancer. To keep my skills sharp and stay on top of industry changes, I regularly attend seminars for professional editors.

Throughout my career, I've worked with countless authors on books in a multitude of subject areas and genres. Regardless if it's your first book or your fifteenth, I can help you make it the best it can be, from the big picture to the smallest detail, depending on your editorial needs. I'm happy to consider new projects and provide a quote, although please note that I typically book projects at least a month in advance.

Self-employed

Sep, 2013 — Present

My services include substantive editing, line editing, copy editing, proofreading, writing, author coaching, and consulting. My clients include individuals, publishers, companies, and businesses in Canada, the United States, and beyond. I specialize in non-fiction books.

John Wiley & Sons Canada, Ltd.

Aug, 2003 — May, 2013 (almost 10 years)

While I spent the majority of my time at Wiley in the role of Production Editor, prior to that I served first as an Editorial Assistant and then as an Editorial Project Coordinator. During my ten years in-house, I worked on hundreds of books (professional, trade, branded, custom, and academic titles in both print and e-book formats), a selection of which are featured in the list of titles in my portfolio below. On top of my own editing and proofing responsibilities, which varied by project, I was responsible for hiring freelancers and inspecting their work to ensure it met the highest editorial standards. Projects spanned a wide variety of non-fiction topics and many achieved national best-seller status.
