Amy Li – Editor

Over the course of my publishing career, I've worked on New York Times bestsellers, Wall Street Journal bestsellers, and National bestsellers. My editorial career has taken me from indie publishers to Big 5 houses and I've edited in a wide range of genres from narrative non-fiction to biography and memoir, to personal success and self-help, to business and leadership, to history. I’m passionate about publishing marginalized voices in every sense of the word, whether that’s people of color, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, or those writing in a space not common for someone of their identity. I am drawn to narrative-driven and expert-driven books in the areas of current affairs, cultural criticism, social justice, social science, investigative journalism, and memoir that ask questions about the institutions we have in place and challenge the ways we navigate the world around us.

My editorial style is exhaustively collaborative. I always tell my authors that I meet them half-way and I honor that with every developmental comment and line edit. At the end of the day, I want you to be proud of the product you put out there. If I make a comment that you don’t feel comfortable with, let’s talk about it and find a way to make things work. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Writing & Rhetoric, which allows me to review manuscripts through a different lens. One that explores both the deeply granular and the zoomed out perspective simultaneously. I like to think of editing as a word puzzle, approaching manuscripts from the perspective of how the words on the page fit together and how I can collaborate with you—the writer— to build out the bigger story or argument you want to tell in the most cohesive way.
