Overview
I am a Pulitzer Prize-winning non-fiction editor, specializing in American History, Military History, Art, African American Studies, Politics, Health and Wellness, Science, Religion, and Current Events.
I learned the craft of writing and editing as a Senior Editor at such publishing houses as Bantam Books, Random House, and Doubleday – all part of Random House, Inc.
For my entire career I have endeavored to edit serious books of great merit while shepherding them through the entire publishing course. I have had great success. My books have won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Award, and the Los Angeles Book Prize. They also have been Finalists for the National Book Award and the RFK Award at Harvard. I am perhaps most proud of their enormous range. I have edited – and published – bestselling books on WWII (copies sold approaching 2 million), award winning biographies (Pulitzer, NBCC, LA Times, and JFK Awards), poetry (an NBA Finalist of all things!) and one almost-coloring book (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) that was turned into a Hollywood movie grossing $177 million.
As an editor I have worked deeply with multiple writers in multiple disciplines and stretched my own writing credentials while working with full manuscripts to create bestselling books. As a writer and an editor, my greatest joy is nurturing and bringing out the best work in others, whether by championing an authentic voice, distilling a complex message, or scaling the natural hurdles of writing and the very real hurdles of dealing with a multi-dimensional ecosystem, one populated with myriad personalities. I am grateful to the scholars, writers, journalists, academics, publishers and agents who have both stretched my horizons and brought theirs near.
My editorial skills are not limited to my specialties; there is a world of editing out there to be done. Challenges welcome!
