Overview
I worked in editorial positions at W. W. Norton, McGraw-Hill & Routledge before I transitioned to freelance work. For the last 15 years, I have offered developmental editing & copy editing services to writers on various paths to publication:
-self-publishing novelists;
-academics publishing with university presses;
-poets seeking to refine their overarching themes and line-by-line word choices;
-novelists looking for help with manuscript development before they query literary agents.
I'm also a writer myself; I've published a poetry chapbook & a novel, and my first full-length poetry collection is forthcoming--all three published with small/independent publishers. My experience as an author makes me a sensitive & sympathetic editor. I am here to support, not supplant, you, your voice & your vision—whatever your publishing path and goals may be.
"When I chose to self-publish my debut novel, a copyeditor was a must. Kristen's skills as a copyeditor provided the final polish for my grammar and punctuation errors. The suggestions she had for enhancing sentence structure made it clear that she fully grasped the goal of my novel. She has a precise way of stepping inside your story and without changing your tone or personal style, helps you make it the best it can be. Kristen is an excellent resource to have as part of your team." —Remi Zorne, author of SCRAPERS
"Kristen is more than an editor, though she is certainly that. You can rely on her keen eye and her ear for language, her commitment to the mot juste. An accomplished writer herself, she knows how to be a trustworthy companion to poets and storytellers, entering imaginatively into the work, respecting and supporting its integrity. Kristen’s skill and whole-hearted engagement with my novel, gave me the confidence to become my own publisher for the first time. I highly recommend her editorial work to independent writers and to those with traditional publishers." —Elizabeth Cunningham, author of OVER THE EDGE OF THE WORLD and The Maeve Chronicles
"Kristen is everything a writer needs in an editor—and more. She has an impeccable feel for language, a careful attention to detail, and the patience, grace, and kindness that makes working with her a pleasure." —Ruth Danon, poet, author of Turn Up the Heat and Word Has It
