Karen Propp

Karen Propp – Ghostwriter

I help organizations and individuals develop ideas into high quality written content. Business, memoir, psychology, and healthcare.

Overview

Do you have a great idea you want to share or a compelling story to tell? I can help turn your dream into a reality.

I have twenty years of experience working on books that have been published by Bloomsbury, Harvard Business Press, Houghton Mifflin, Hudson Street Books, Jossey-Bass, New Harbinger, Penguin, Plume, Random House, Rodale, and W.W. Norton. I work regularly with leaders in business, healthcare, law, and the arts.

My Porftfolio represents books I have worked on as a developmental editor. Books As a ghost I have written book-length memoirs for an automobile executive, a man dying with ALS, a 1930s Polish radio personality who survived Soviet work camps, and a father whose young daughter battled a rare disease, among others. I have also ghosted blog posts published by Huffington Post or on company websites.

After hearing about your project, we discuss what format and process will best fit your individual needs and how I can best commit my expertise, creativity, and time. I work with interviews (in-person and Skype) as well as written material.

Under my own name I am the co-editer of Why I'm Still Married: Women Write Their Hearts Out On Love, Loss, Sex, and Who Does The Dishes, the best-selling anthology of essays about marriage published by Penguin, and the author of two well-received memoirs, In Sickness & In Health: A Love Story and The Pregnancy Project: Encounters With Reproductive Therapy.

I have taught writing and literature at the Harvard Business School, the University of New Hampshire, and Boston College. My Ph.D. is in British and American Literature from the University of Utah and my B.A. in English is from Oberlin College. I have been featured on NPR, Sundays with Liz Walker and awarded grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

As a writer of dozens of children's books, a memoir, and essays in major journals, I find Karen Propp's insight, knowledge, and professionalism to be unsurpassed. Not only is she a talented and creative editor, but she has the rare ability of being able to see the work from the author's viewpoint. To add to all this, Karen is just plain fun to work with. I recommend her highly.

My book proposal collaboration with Karen was cut short after receiving her analysis of my book. I appreciate her feedback, and the detailed report that provided changes that could be made, that would enhance the books message prior to being sent to agents Kimberly

We did not meet our original deadlines and we pretty much stopped collaborating after that. I was under the impression that we would do more collaboration, but my final files were delivered in what felt like an afterthought. While I think there was enthusiasm at the beginning, I was left thinking she was glad to be done with my project. I could be wrong, but that was the impression I was left w...
