Jess Black

Jess Black – Ghostwriter

I am an award-winning children’s author and ghostwriter who is adept at crafting compelling stories which resonate with kids and adults.

Overview

I’m an award-winning children’s author and experienced ghostwriter with more than twenty years in the publishing industry. With sixty-seven books published across six of Australia’s major publishing houses, I bring both a storyteller’s instinct and deep industry insight to every project I take on.

As a ghostwriter, I’ve helped shape and write children’s books for clients including Jo Weston, Mackenzie Arnold, David Walker, Poppy Starr, and Eddie Woo — crafting authentic stories that reflect their voice, values, and vision. Whether you come to me with a detailed outline or just a spark of an idea, I’ll help you bring it to life with heart, pace, and purpose.

My specialties are action, humour, and heartfelt storytelling, particularly in junior and middle grade fiction. I understand what keeps readers turning pages — voice, momentum, and emotional truth — and I help authors capture that same magic in their own work.

If you’re looking for a creative, collaborative partner who knows how to make stories shine — and who understands both the art and business of writing — I’d love to work with you.

Jess provided a remarkable review of my manuscript. Her knowledge of what makes a really good story for the age group I am trying to reach, is worth the money I spent. I will apply her recommendations to Evan’s Earth Day Experience which she states, "has the potential to be both instructive and g...
