Jennifer Herrington – Editor

Passionate, motivating editor and book coach dedicated to supporting authors at all stages in their career. Specializes in romantic fiction.

Overview

I am a passionate, experienced editor and book coach who has worked with best-selling, award-winning, and brand-new authors. My passion is helping authors achieve their dreams and create projects they can be proud of.

* Please note that I am full for book coaching clients at this time. I will be looking to start collaborating again in April 2025. Feel free to reach out if you are interested. *

I live for weaving love stories across all genres, from sweet novellas to extra spicy novels, in all heat levels in young adult, new adult, and adult. I adore nearly all romance subgenres, from contemporary and paranormal to romantasy, romantic comedy, and romantic suspense.

I have a soft spot for editing projects that have a romantic subplot even if it’s just minor or secondary thread, like women’s fiction, suspense, and cozy mysteries. My background as an avid sports fanatic and former sports reporter allows me to dig into projects featuring an athlete such as in sports romances. I also welcome collaborating on dark romance books that push the boundaries, while also connecting with first loves in YA fiction.

As a former editor for Kensington Corporation and an intern for Entangled Publishing, I've been editing romance and romantic fiction for more than a decade. I've supported authors at all stages of their careers with a range of editorial services, from assessments to developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading.

As a passionate wordsmith who still writes, I empathize with the daunting and solitary path of editing. I've experienced criticism so harsh it left me feeling like giving up. I credit my journey to becoming an editor to that firsthand experience, and take pride in fostering a supportive, motivating, and positive environment for authors to learn and thrive.

Through positive language, constructive criticism, and a deep understanding of genre and reader expectations, writing and story mechanics, and the current marketplace, I provide feedback to help make your manuscript the best it can be while maintaining the author’s voice and vision.

Every author has a unique journey, and I'm eager to discover if I'm the ideal match for yours.

I provide editorial services (editorial assessment, developmental editing, line editing, proofreading) to authors in the genres of romance and romantic fiction.

I work through a series of editing passes with each author helping to tighten the story while maintaining the author's voice and vision for their book.

(Previously known as Editing with Love - 2016)

Lyrical Press/Kensington Publishing Corporation

Jan, 2016 — Mar, 2020 (about 4 years)

I proofread galley manuscripts to correct typos, formatting errors, grammar errors, and minor discrepancies. Followed Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster Dictionary. I recorded any errors on proofreading recording form.

Kensington Publishing Corporation (Lyrical Press)

Feb, 2014 — Mar, 2020 (about 6 years)

I read queries, presented potential acquisitions to managing editor, provided developmental editing to acquired books, formatted manuscripts, reviewed copyedited manuscript with author to explain any recommendations, completed requested copyedits, provided proofread, reviewed proofreading recommendations with author, and reviewed galley copy.

I acted as the liaison between the publisher and author for cover, back cover blurbs, marketing plans, etc.

Entangled Publishing

Feb, 2012 — Dec, 2019 (almost 8 years)

I read partial, full submissions, and client manuscripts and provided reader report and editorial recommendations. I also provided first and second pass editorial notes and letter to my mentor.

Jenn does it again! Seriously, I cannot thank her enough! From start to finish, working with Jenn has been an absolute game-changer. Her keen eye for detail, thoughtful feedback, and deep understanding of storytelling have not only strengthened my manuscript but have also helped me grow tremendously as a writer. She doesn’t just catch the small things—she refines and elevates them in a way that...

I can not possibly express my level of gratitude for Jennifer's work in a short review. The quality of feedback she provided in both the overall letter and in-line was positive and insightful. Jennifer offered additional resources for me to consult to help strengthen the motives of my characters in this specific manuscript, but also to help create more complete characters in the future. As some...
