I provide editorial services (manuscript critique, developmental editing, line editing, proofreading) to independent authors in mainly romance genres. I work through a series of editing passes with each author while helping to tighten the story while maintaining the author's voice and vision for their book.
As an intern, my duties included reading and assessing queries (pitch, query, synopsis, and writing sample), requesting partial or full manuscripts for my review, declining manuscripts with personalized feedback, reading mentor's client's manuscript and offer editorial feedback, crafting pitches, and creating/revising client catalogues. I also did market research on what genres and publishers were currently being contracted.
I proofread manuscripts to correct typos, formatting errors, grammar errors, and minor discrepancies. I recorded any errors on proofreading recording form.
I provided developmental editing of acquired books. I worked through a series of passes strengthening characterization, plot structure, world building, and all craft elements with the author through positive feedback and open discussion.
