Overview

NEW: Ask me about editing translations (Ukrainian-English)!

I am a meticulous editor and detailed proofreader, with a knack for big-picture world building and an eye for good storytelling.

Over the years, I have worn many hats in the publishing industry. While working at a literary agency, I read countless query letters and manuscript submissions to help agents find promising emerging writers to add to their client lists. At Penguin Random House (Knopf) I wrote editorial letters reviewing slush pile submissions for an award-winning imprint and participated in editorial assessment meetings with senior editors.

I can help you navigate the vast void between an off-the-mark query letter and a query letter that gets noticed. For editorial assessments, I thoroughly review manuscripts and assess the plot, style, flow, and/or compatibility with your audience (for kidlit). I'll approach each project with sensitivity and careful attention, making suggestions for improvement without compromising your authorial voice and vision. I happily work with both seasoned writers and those new to publishing to help prepare your manuscript for submission or to help you assess how much editing is required for your self-publishing project!

If your novel or children's book is just about ready to go out into the world, but you need someone to check for all the typos, lingering errors, and layout issues, send me a note for a proofread. I am well-versed in Chicago Manual of Style. And I have experience proofreading anything from marketing materials to book with lots of visual elements (ex. illustrations, photos).

Editing is my greatest passion, and I would love to use it to help you with your next writing project. If you would like to work with me, get in touch.

Happy writing!

Kids Can Press

I started out as an editorial assistant, and have been providing support to the editorial and production teams ever since. I help review potential acquisitions (including the slush pile), edit custom book projects, copyedit and proofread. As one of the production editors, I work on a team that makes sure our 40+ titles get to the printer each year and in tip-top shape! I work on picture books, children's nonfiction, and the occasional YA novel.

Augur Magazine / Tales & Feathers

Jul, 2017 — Aug, 2023 (about 6 years)

Augur Magazine publishes speculative and slice-of-life fantasy short stories, poetry, and graphic fiction two issues per year. I am part of the editorial team, which decides on the pieces we publish, and I help edit some of the short stories we publish. I complete substantive and stylistic edits, as well as proofread each issue from start to finish.
