Overview

I am an academic specialising in Gothic studies, with a broad interdisciplinary educational background in English and American literature, art history, film, and social history. I have extensive experience as a copy editor and proofreader of a wide range of arts and humanities monographs and edited collections I am also a peer reviewer for leading journals including English Studies. This experience spans both my primary field and beyond, including Gothic literary studies, single-author studies, spatial geography, and horror studies. I am confident in my ability to aid academic authors across the arts and humanities spectrum.

In addition, I have served a two-year term as assistant editor at The Journal of Languages, Texts, and Societies and progressed to lead production editor. I am a published author in a range of leading journals in my field, including Comparative American Studies: An International Journal, Literature, Critique, Empire Today, and Gothic Studies.

My strength as a copy editor lies in my close attention to detail. My approach to copy editing prioritises maximum readability to enable authors to communicate complex ideas through clear, precise prose and thereby maximise audience reach and research impact. I value clarity and consistency in my communication with clients. I have experience working with a range of house styles, including publication-specific guidelines as well as MLA, Chicago, and Harvard styles. Over the past three years, I have worked consistently with head editor Dafydd Jones on both the Gothic Literary Studies series and the Literary Geography: Theory and Practice series, completing 14 titles, including monographs, edited collections and single-author studies. The skills I have cultivated are as follows: • Communication with stakeholders: I liaise with authors and senior management to produce manuscripts for typesetting to the proof stage. • Attention to detail: I have a keen eye for consistency in style, spelling and referencing. • Style guide proficiency: I have experience working with a range of house styles, including publication-house-specific guidelines as well as MLA, Harvard, and Chicago and as these styles appear through in-text citations, footnotes and endnotes. • Preparing copy for typesetting: I am experienced in inserting typesetting marks.
