Overview
"Emily's editing was a revelation. ... She pays remarkably close attention and strives to give notes that feel both incredibly specific and sensitive to the voice and style of the writer."

Are you itching to publish your first book, but you're not quite sure what it needs to be publishable?
Do you want to collaborate with an editor who thoroughly answers your questions about the publishing process?
Or maybe you already know the drill and just need an editor to get right to work.
If you answered "yes" to any of these, then you're my people!
I'm Emily, editor of nonfiction books and poetry collections. I previously served as the lead marketing & revisions editor for New Degree Press. I now serve as a manuscript reviewer for Berrett-Koehler, a traditional publisher, and as a literary journal reader for the Baltimore Review.
While collaborating with me, you can expect a thorough yet compassionate edit, with full attention given to the preservation of your unique voice. My style is part editor, part coach; you'll come away from the process not just with a clean manuscript, but with an understanding of why each change was made.
I also want the process to be as simple as possible for you. Here's what you can expect when you reach out to me:
1) I'll ask questions about your vision, the goals for your book, and who you're writing for. I'll usually request to see a longer sample of your writing and may perform a sample edit, if appropriate. I won't send an offer until I know your project inside and out.
2) Once I review your answers and your writing sample, I'll let you know 1) the level of editing your manuscript may need, 2) how long it will take to complete, and 3) the fair market rate for these services. YOU get the final say on which editorial service I perform.
3) When we agree that we're a great fit, I'll do my thing. I edit using Track Changes in Word so that you can see every suggestion I make, and I use Comments to ensure you understand why I'm making those suggestions.
4) I'll return the completed project to you within the agreed-upon deadline. I welcome any and all questions you may have as you review the suggested edits.
I'm excited to meet you. Send a request and we'll get to work!
