Cristen Iris – Editor

I work on human-written memoir, sports, entertainment, personal & professional development, health & wellbeing, academic-trade crossovers

Overview

I’m an award-winning developmental editor and book coach with more than 12 years of experience in the highly competitive book publishing industry.

I believe that writing and editing are a way of life, the constant creation and refinement of thought and action that leads to our highest level of contribution.

I also believe that all meaningful communication—written, verbal, visual, and physical—is advocacy because when we communicate we’re attempting to advocate for ourselves, for others, for an idea or an ideal. And the higher the stakes the more aware, competent, and cooperative we must be.

As a writer, editor, late-diagnosed AuDHDer (autistic-ADHD), and all around insatiably curious human, I’m interested in what people know, where they learned it, how it affects them, and how they apply their knowledge and skills in pursuit of personal and professional growth and service of others. I’m excited to share my journey with you and support you as you navigate yours.

Projects I've worked on have been published by Big 5 traditional and traditional model independent publishers, including:

🔸 HarperCollins

🔸 Oxford University Press

🔸 Johns Hopkins University Press

🔸 Penguin Group imprint TarcherPerigee

🔸 Prometheus Books

🔸 Unsolicited Press

Books and essay projects have earned dozens of well-known book and writing awards and have been translated into 13 languages.

Title bestseller rankings include:

🔸 New York Times

🔸 Publishers Weekly

🔸 Amazon Charts

🔸 Several of them consistently (week after week, month after month, and for several years in a row) rank between #3 and 100 in one or more of their Amazon sales categories.

Clients’ earned media coverage includes:

🔸TODAY Show’s Read with Jenna

🔸 Forks Over Knives magazine

🔸 Los Angeles Times

🔸 Parade Magazine

🔸 Rolling Stone

🔸 Billboard

🔸 Variety

Clients and strategic partners describe me as being:

🔸 an “incredibly efficient as a researcher”

🔸 “a wonderfully precise thinker”

🔸 “a valuable sounding board”

🔸 "the perfect combination of cheerleader and taskmaster"

🔸 an "informed and professional role model"

🔸 "able to deliver each person’s needs in a training setting"

🔸 “the embodiment of excellence, grace, and humility”

🔸 and having “tremendous impact” on projects

I describe myself as an extroverted hermit and lover of all things out of doors (especially winged and crawling things). If I could be anyone else, I'd be Pippi Longstocking.
