A Friendship of Most Delectable Poison

Weekly Contest #367

A Friendship of Most Tasty Poison The choice to wake up rather than dream - even if it hurts more than anything. “You’re the best friend I could ever ask for.” Said Mint as he peeled a layer of flesh from the surface of his eyeball. In his plaid pyjamas, he perched atop the kitchen bar stool. His lips crinkled like tissue paper from the pain of the breaking skin, quivering as they fought to maintain a smile. The Diner of Disgust

Weekly Contest #365

I’ve always believed in the paranormal. So I could barely wait to start packing When my family announced the move To a town deemed haunted. The red open sign flickered. Swirly letters towered over the parking lot, a traffic light begging passersby to stop. Hungry on the road? Munches on the Move. Service station: 18.7 miles. Her huge leather boots, golden hearts on each buckle, slouch on the desk. Clink! The coin lands, tickling the surface of the deck's jagged floorboards. It hesitates with a scratchy wobble before deciding to lie flat. Her finge...

Heirloom

My father’s shabby fishing boat quivers, causing my legs to shift against the cream leather. He fiddles and prods a few buttons beside the wheel. I could not begin to name what each one is doing - I was never good with all that mechanical stuff, no matter how desperately he tried to teach me. He shouts for my mother, who I know stands outside. I hear her boots click against rock as she hops onto land. The first new face the island has seen in years, no doubt. My father grabs his baseball cap from the identical couch opposite me. He releases...
