VOICELESS Selective mutism is, according to Wikipedia, "an anxiety disorder in which a person normally capable of speech cannot speak in specific situations or to specific people". Psychologists still find it difficult to pin down the reasons why anxiety may manifest in selective mutism. My memory of my first day of school is—as I expect is normal—different to that of my mum’s.
