The plans lay in Katherine’s hands like a deadweight. They showed twisting corridors, cozy alcoves, and concealed pathways leading to secret gardens with burbling fountains and hidden library rooms. She recognized them immediately - she had sat in the corridors of her old boarding school and imagined these magical worlds hidden under floorboards and across the trellises.
