There comes a time when you need to accept the family you have. It's a hard thing to do. Especially when the family you have isn't the family you want to have. When that family is dysfunctional and broken. When that family hates you. It's hard not to take it personally. To not carry a grudge. I used to think I was the forgive and forget sort.
