[CW: Mention of character death]Are you there, God? It’s me, one of your many children that just lost someone very important to them. I’m not going to ask why, because I know I’ll just get one of those vague answers like “I needed her home”. I always do. And not even from you; I only ever hear it from anyone else. Why is that, God? Why, with all your infinite love, can’t you give an answer to someone that’s hurting?People can say what they want, but I’m not sure I believe that it was just her time. She had so much left to do- she’d only just...
[CW: Cancer, character death]One. You stand with your fingers twisted into as many knots as your stomach, knuckles white and hands trembling. The microphone before you isn’t on, but even without its assistance, you wouldn’t be surprised if the whole of the theatre could hear your heartbeat. The thick velvet curtain is something of a comfort to you; a wall that removes the expectant faces from your sight. How it manages that in a city full of sun and glass, I have no idea. But it is shadowed nonetheless, and wind w...

There’s a monster outside. It shrieks and rages, insatiable and endless. It speeds through the air, sending trees toppling and threatening to cave in the roof. Boundless amounts of anger fuel it, but it has become my friend. It is a distraction from the Inside, where the people feel nothing but anger. Inside, there is a battle raging, almost as fierce as the Monster of the Outside. When the people of Inside start to war again, the Monster always seems to strike, and then the people disperse to hide from the Monster. No use screaming when ...

Trigger warning: suicide -Ten days ago- “He’s been writing for hours,” Yasmine whispered to me. “He’ll stop, scribble things out, crumple up the paper and then toss it away. It’s happened even more than when he’s working on an essay. I’m getting worried.” I stared at Rayne as he rammed a hand through his hair and gave a tiny growl of frustration. I’d never seen him like this, even when he was freaking out over his resume in tenth grade. I turned to Yasmine. “Have you tried to talk to him?” Yasmine shuddered. “Yes, and it didn’t go ove...
