Trigger Warning: Domestic manipulation and physical peril. Julie descended the stairs to the beach. It was empty even at the height of the season. Near dusk now, a few fires flickered in the distance. It was Sunday, and the renters and tourists had headed home. The only ones left were the summer people like herself and the locals who lived there year round.
