So there I was on the edge of a cliff hanger and time abruptly stopped to have a nervous breakdown on me. It was Monday and we all know how Monday's can be! I think I forgot to wind the cuckoo clock! Life is like a soap opera cliff hanger and nervous breakdowns are insane. All I know is that I heard the telephone ring and I woke up way too fast. The clock read 5:25 a.m. and the caller was chattering away a mile a minute. It looks like "the voice" was back in my life. The voice, being my mother's landlord and best friend, needed a little he...
It's not like Lisa and I belonged to the Yada Yah Sisterhood Society back in those days. She was a rad 18-year old red head, hung up on karma and liking the Rolling Stones. I, on the other hand, wasn't a true blonde without the hair coloring, turning 19-years old soon and living in a college dorm.If I recall right, it was 1984, and Ronald Reagan was running the country as best he could. Lisa was all for the guy and I wasn't into politics. Our grandpa did look a lot like the man though and he, too, was 100% Republican.Like I say, Lisa and I w...

As a father, you want what's best for your children, even when they are grown and on their own. Isn't it true that a good dad puts his own needs secondary to what's important to his children? Doesn't he keep his promise and show up everyday? If love cannot be said in words, sometimes actions speak in ways that words cannot. My own dad showed me love in my life and I grew up knowing I was cared for. Sometimes a man doesn't follow his good dad's good example though. In spite of the fact I have my father's blue eyes, I don't see life in the same...
I feel like Dorothy in the Oz movie and this isn't Kansas anymore. It's San Diego and one of the munchkins is under my mother-in-laws dinner table right now. She's talking in a feline language to a rambunctious cat that has a borderline personality disorder and the cat isn't going to budge."Sarah, get that cat away from the dinner table." Mrs. Jackson yells. The little munchkin is Sara, all of 6-years old, and she's talking the furry cat into her arms. I'm hyperventilating and politely sneezing at the table. I whisper in Daniel's ear and remi...
Hindsight 20/20, there's no one to point a finger at or blame anymore and the entire incident was childish. Truth is though, there were many immature scenarios that that happened over the years and I can't count them all. Sometimes life throws a bunch of lemons around and no one can do a juggling act.If anything, the lemons are in bad taste when there are allergies involved and, let's face it, not everyone in this world likes lemon aid. I can't name a single person in my family that will drink the stuff. I, for one, don't even like lemon pie...
