Weekly Contest #371
The coffee expired an hour ago, but I’m not making another pot. Technically, it expired at midnight. I changed the timer to two. If you come into a gas station this late, you deserve old coffee. It’s mostly drunks or kids buying junk to stave off their munchies this time of night. Then there are the chronic losers who come in four or five times a night. Don’t you people sleep? I don’t even greet the regulars anymore. They come in, buy a candy bar and a Monster, then come back an hour later for a frozen dinner and rolling papers. Another hour...
Weekly Contest #370
6:54PM C’mon already. At this point I’d pay them to let me punch out now. My fingers tap against the desk. I feel like I’m at a starting line waiting for the gun to go off. Please don’t call. Please don’t call. Please don’t call. Please don’t— BEEP FUUUUCKKKKK me. “Thank you for contacting customer service. How can I help you?” I said, hoping this person would be immediately sucked into some Hellmouth vortex so I can disconnect. Why was it always me? Why did I always get the last call? I listened half-heartedly and figured out his problem b...
Weekly Contest #358

The top of the cabin roof came into view and I could see the crooked weather vane that knocked on the roof when it was windy. Not that there had been much wind lately....
Weekly Contest #357
Trigger Warning: Discussion of a school shooting. .......................................................................................... It didn’t feel real. Suddenly time was this very present animal. Even the pretty voice on the car radio knew it. The drive to the hospital was mostly a blur but “One, two, three, one, two, three, drink,” she sang before talking about swinging from chandeliers. I couldn’t focus. One, two, three… I don’t remember most of the drive. Now I’m sitting here, getting most of the information I know from the...
