The hands on the grandfather clock in the living room of my grandfather's house fly around, counter-clockwise. I squeeze my eyes closed as the last 40 minutes or so play in reverse around me. I can hear the sounds of the events, though they’re muffled, almost inaudible. I can feel myself moving backwards through the motions and the emotions too. As the clock rewinds, the events that occurred disappear. I get to choose the moment they begin to be rewritten. I choose now. The hands on the antique clock pause for a brief moment and then begin a...

The line at the counter keeps growing, but the smile on her face doesn’t waver. She’s wishing she hadn't picked up this shift, but Chelsea has the flu for the third time this month and had begged her to take it. So, she did like a good employee and took one for the team. "What can I get you?" She listens attentively to the cute boy in the Pink Floyd T-shirt. Struck immediately by his baby blue eyes that looked too pretty to be natural, like they were drawn by a world-renowned tattoo artist. “Can I just get an iced vanilla latte? Extra shot t...

It’s been almost 30 cycles since I started keeping track. I don’t know how many before that. I'm not sure if they're days, since I have no sense of time in here. Only when the lights are on and when they're off. After each cycles ends, I reach under my pillow and tear another slit in the Table of Contents of my book. 29 today. The room is extremely dark, even when the lights are on. I've searched everywhere and there are doors. No exits at all.Only one large square window in the middle of the far wall that seems to be unbreakable. I’ve tried ...

The Beatles. Fleetwood Mac. Duran Duran. The Beatles again. Queen. The Cranberries. Chicago. The Beatles.I already own every Beatles album.I finish sifting through yet another box of vinyls and stand up to wipe the dust off of my knees. I love coming to the antique mall, but it’s so large and it’s sometimes hard to find the hidden gems. I’ve been collecting vinyls for years, it’s a hobby of mine. Cleaning the kitchen becomes a less mundane task when the turntable in the living room transports you like a time machine to any concert by any ban...

The sun reflects on the windshield, causing temporary blindness and illuminating the filth that has accumulated since I last went through the car wash. I squint like I need a rather thick pair of glasses and pull down the sun visor. The road begins to repaint itself in front of my eyes.We are on a long stretch of highway, single lane, that is completely surrounded by trees on either side. Other than the occasional gap between them that's filled with nothing but tall grass. The road is mostly shaded, but open spaces between the trees and bran...
