Darran Smith grew up in a family that could make even the most ordinary moments feel like stories worth telling. He set aside dreams of becoming a comic book writer/artist to study Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University—but he never stopped writing.
Darran’s writing explores queer life in all its complexity—love and sex, friendship and family, identity and belonging. His stories focus on gay men striving to live authentically in a world that doesn’t always make space for them, often balancing emotionally charged themes with humor and wit.
He lives in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., where he spends his time taking photographs, building LEGO, and finally finishing a story or two.
The Alphabet Lovers is his first novel.
