In one of the front rooms, Dr. Nathaniel Edmonds bent low over the small bed be...

After pushing back from its gate, the Swiss Air midday flight to New York moved slowly through a light snow flurry to its designated runway. The First-Class cabin was less than half full, the passenger in 1A was pleased there was no one opposite. A smiling cabin crew offered him a glass of champagne, he declined, asking for double single malt. He thought about the voicemail, a somewhat guarded call, coming from someone he hadn’t spoken to in 15 years. What drove his final response was the email attachment that followed. He'd tried retuning t...

Carefully opening the small exit door from the basement carpark, she peered out. It was still raining, now, more heavily, with a force that made splattering sounds when hitting against the roller shutters and bluestone that lined the narrow dark alley. She looked back to West End Avenue, then down to Amsterdam, seeing nothing but darkness and falling rain. Pulling the door shut, crouched in the small space, adjusting her back pack before pulling the beanie over long hair. She reckoned, one hundred metres to Amsterdam, a three-block jog would...
