Super Couple

Something was different this week. I could feel it. Everything seemed normal though. My boyfriend coming home bruised and beaten up, the threats that I got daily, mostly from small-time villains, and work. I even almost died last night. Everything was as normal as it had been ever since I started dating Jake, aka Light Boy. The power of the sun seemed to draw a lot of attention. I was on my way to work this morning when I was hit on the back of the head and everything went dark. As I said, a normal week. When I woke back up, I was in a wareh...

Project NEON (Pt. 3)

“Aubrey?” I asked in confusion. She looked at me, a slight frown on her face. She wouldn’t recognise me, but Charlie had shown me pictures. “How do you know my name?” “I, um, Charlie told me about you and all the work you’re doing for the NEONs…. Dan, you didn’t tell me Aubrey was here.” I said, looking at him, trying to take everything in at once. “Uh… I had no idea you knew her, I’m sorry…” He said, looking slightly scared of me. I realised my tone must’ve been too sharp, something I don’t even realise until someone looks at me like that. ...

Project NEON (Pt. 2, you can read it now!)

I walked through the trash-littered back alley to the Arena, my shoes splashing in small puddles along the rough concrete. Tonight was it. My first fight since meeting that boy who gave me the bracelet. He’d be waiting for me afterwards if what he said was true. But I had more reason to believe him now. I walked through the main doors, watching as my Brace deactivated thanks to the electromagnetic pulsars that were placed around the door frame. I nodded to the thick-built guy in shades, the same one who always watched the door. He knew me an...

Project NEON

I pulled my hood closer around my head as I looked around the corner, my light blue eyes covered by brown contacts. It was hard to find coloured contacts nowadays. No one wanted to be caught selling Concealing items. I scanned the ally, seeing only regular blue light and a few other hooded wanderers. I was lucky it was raining. I stepped out, quickly turning the corner to stay close to the wall, but I immediately walked into someone. A boy, about my age, quite a bit taller than me, well-built. He was familiar, but I couldn’t remember where I...

Pagoto

(This is based on real experiences) Dear Dairy, I was already tired and irritable when I got on the plane, the endlessly boring and unnecessarily stressful hours of waiting around the DC airport having taken its toll on me. So when I got off the plane, and the 100℉ heat smacked me rudely in the face, I knew it was going to be a long day. My mother harried me down the steps leading to the hot tarmac, and we piled onto an already-too-full bus-looking thing that they use to transport people to the further away planes. I think they’re called sh...

Super Weird

I knock again, shifting my weight from one foot to another. The bag on my shoulder is heavy, the straps cutting into my shoulders. I try to resist the temptation to read his mind, but in the end, I give in, opening my mind to his, and pinpointing where he is. Ah! Where is my shirt? Come on, I know I laid it out somewhere…. Is that it?! No, it’s the one I wore yesterday. Ugh, I can’t wear something smelly, what would she think? And this stupid blue thing…. Ugh, even my trousers don’t cover it properly. His thoughts say loudly, his stress maki...

Sneakers and Jeans

“Class, today we have a special announcement. This school has paired with an American school to do a combined field trip week, and we’ll be showing them all of our amazing sights and places, giving them a proper trip to Wales. I’ve had a permission form sent to all of your parents, and thankfully, all of them have signed it and given their permission for all of you to join in with this enriching experience. We will travel all over the country for a week, showing the Americans where our favourite historical sites and hidden gems are. We will ...

The Midnight Wolf (part 3)

“Mum, I’m going out, ok?” I yell to her as I scramble to get my shoes on. I know I have to help Ezzy and I usually go out late at night on my own so Mum should be fine with my impromptu outing. “Um, ok, just… you know, be responsible.” My mum responds from the other room. I throw open the front door and slam it behind me, running towards Ezzy’s house a couple of streets away. I look around me hurriedly, ensuring no humans are around before I shift into my wolf form, my white fur shining in the moonlight. I race to Ezzy’s house, running as fa...

Once Touched, Twice Shy

(This is a sequel to Just Touched) “Oooh, look at this one!” Astra said, holding up a juicy, dark blackberry. “Yeah,” I said, nodding supportively, “That’ll look nice on top of one of Mel’s tarts.” I held out the basket full of the berries we had already collected and Astra dropped the big berry into it. I placed it back on the ground, turning back to the tangle of thorns in front and to the sides of us. Suddenly a branch snapped a few feet away. Astra and I both immediately dropped into a crouching position, bracing ourselves for whatever ...

The Midnight Wolf (Part 2)

After Ezzy left, I sat on my bed and just thought. Yes, there is a big possibility that the werewolf in Ezzy’s vision could be me, but I desperately hope it isn’t. I could never imagine doing something like that. But… that would mean…. Dad is back. And who is the man? What is he doing and why is he being attacked by the Midnight Wolf? That was my nickname for him as it seemed like he would attack the man at night. “EEETTHHAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!” One of the kids called from probably in the kitchen, based on the echo that followed it. I sighed. “I’m...

The Almost Great Escape

I froze, standing there with my mouth open, my eyes wide. My mind was spinning, piecing all of the facts together. It all made sense now: the lack of results and then the spike in the action with the actual chemicals; the overabundance of unique chemical combinations being readily available. The former Chemical Director stared at me in shock and then the Headmaster’s head peeked around him, wondering why he was still standing there. His eyes went wide as he saw me standing there, basically mimicking their expressions. His face quickly shifte...

The Midnight Wolf

(Author’s note: This story is set in the world of Pumpkin Spice, another story I wrote a while ago. You don’t need to read that one for this one to make sense, but some of the same characters appear in this story. Feel free to read Pumpkin Spice if you really want to!) “OOPH!” I stumbled and almost fell, catching myself before I toppled over the small girl in front of me. She had made that fateful sound of a collision and had fallen backwards, landing on her butt. I reached out my big hand to help her up. “Oh my gosh, are you ok? I’m so sor...

Desperate Remedies

*Warning, there is a tiny bit of sexual innuendo, but hopefully, it’s pretty PG 12 stuff* “Hey, Gen,” His annoying voice said through the thick glass. “My NAME,” I snapped, “Is Genevieve, not ‘Gen’.” I yanked roughly on the syringe plunger, sucking the liquid concoction quickly into the holding chamber. I strode over to the door, throwing the door open and glaring at Charlie. “This one better work,” I said, sicking the needle into his arm violently. He jerked away from me. “Ow! Careful, it’s not my fault none of this is working.” He said, r...

All's Fair in Love and... Labs?

I strode purposefully towards a desk with 12 Manila envelopes on it, noticing that I was the first one up, as per usual. I scanned the desk, looking for the envelope with my name on it. I found it close to the left edge and I slid it off the desk on my way to the automatic sliding doors behind the desk. When I got to the main hall, I looked down at my envelope, noting the number beneath my name and then searching for it on one of the many sign plaques. I found it on Floor Three’s plaque and headed to the lift. When the doors dinged open at f...

Game of the Gods

At the beginning of time, there were gods. They created Humans, but they all had different ways of living and different strengths and weaknesses. One god for each type of person. There were the Undonights, known for their wisdom and search for knowledge, governed by the god Undodon. To Ghetians, kindness and love were always a priority to their goddess Ghetia. Zulgights always made sure everyone was living life to the fullest, never letting anyone rule them or tell them what to do, thanks to the ancient writings left to them by their god Zul...
