13:11 He paces the cool concrete floor; back and forth, back and forth. His white socks collect dust on the bottom. He ignores them. The rain tapping on the basement window taunts him, reminding him of all his failures. His lips smack in rhythm with the list of everything he wanted to accomplish this year: good grades, move out of his mom’s house, get a girlfriend. Olivia sits in her car, hitting her vape. It’s almost time to head inside, but she wants a few more minutes to herself. Her friend Hannah pulls in the drive and parks. I guess that’s my cue, she thinks to herself, grabbing her apron and opening the door. She walks toward the back restaurant, stuffing her phone, keys, and money in her pockets. She clocks in and looks for Hannah. She’s in the kitchen, rolling silverware. “Did they not do that last night?” Olivia asks her. “Of course not! Bella said that Alexandre took t...
