Weekly Contest #95
My grandmother is a psychic and no one is ever going to convince me otherwise, and here is why. Growing up I came to the realization that I am lucky to be alive on Earth. I discovered that every choice or action had an effect and anything throughout time had a chance to cease my existence. One day, that choice took effect on my mother. When my mother was a teenager, she was invited to a friend’s birthday party. The group of girls planned for a day on the beach to hang out and celebrate. My mother decided to wear her brand-new bathing suit ...
Weekly Contest #93
For the past week, I have seen sponsored social media posts and posters advertising for a new carnival coming to town. Scrolling through my feed, I stop on the ad to see if it is worth visiting. A ringmaster, juggler, and clown come into view and go through everything they have to offer. While the ringmaster is speaking, the juggler is behind him juggling and the clown is standing strangely still. The clown is staring into the camera with a huge smile and does not blink for the entirety of the sixty-second video. I replay the ad several tim...
Weekly Contest #90
TW: Gun violence. Every year temperatures rise across the globe. This year was the year Earth’s Ozone layer gave through. A solar massacre swept our planet. Our immune systems weakened, and disease spread. It started with our crops, then the livestock. This caused a massive shortage in our food supply. The survivors started getting desperate and began to riot, steal, then kill for their food. There is an increasing amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation poisoning the Earth and everyone on it. It is only a matter of time before Mother Nature t...
The train whistle echoes off the concrete walls of the station, announcing it prepares to depart. My lungs burn and my feet ache inside my heels. With my bag in hand, I race to the nearest open door to board. Somehow, I managed to slip through the doors as they shut behind me. “Your ticket, ma’am?” A lengthy man asked with an outreached hand. I hand it over and he directs me to my seat. The train is at maximum capacity this morning. Passengers fill every seat and the car roars with conversation and laughter. Annoyed, I put in my headphones...
Weekly Contest #89
TW: suicide, substance abuse Today was the day. I even had it marked on my calendar, as if I could forget. A few months ago, I decided that I was finally fed up. The harassment, the drama, my family, and friends. I was tired of dealing with it all, so I decided that taking my own life would be easier. My mom is a drug addict, so talking to her was like trying to talk to a wall. She never was present with me. My father is a drunk, honestly useless. The only thing he was ever good at was abusing my mom and threatening me if I was to ever tell...
