Overview

I have fifteen years of editorial experience and a creative writing background that includes published short fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. In addition to working for CBA publishing houses, I offer services to individual authors pursuing traditional and indie publishing. Most of my clients write for the Christian market, but I also work with general-market authors. My fiction-writing background has led me to specialize in contemporary, women's, 18th- and 19th-century historical, Christian/ inspirational, and clean romantic fiction. I also have plenty of experience with Christian living and devotionals. As a writer, I'm represented by The Steve Laube Agency.

In 2015, I co-authored 5 Editors Tackle the 12 Fatal Flaws of Fiction Writing with four other editors. I have judged ACFW's First Impressions and Genesis contests; taught at Greater Philly Christian Writers Conference; and am a member of Editorial Freelancers Association, Christian Editor Connection, The Christian PEN: Editors and Proofreaders Network, and ACFW.

WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING:

On my own resources or when a publisher communicates that they have a need on one of my projects, there is only one person I call for editing and proofing—Christy Distler. She is highly professional, personalizes her diverse skill set to the project’s needs, delivers on time, and is always fair with the budget. When the choice is up to me, I don’t work with anyone else. —Robert Noland, multi-published author

Christy has become my go-to editor and proofreader. She catches the little things as well as the big, and is a stickler for detail in both mechanics and substantive issues. She wrangles my commas. I appreciate her work ethic, timeliness, and courage to tell me what can be improved. —Davalynn Spencer, award-winning author

Christy Distler has the extraordinary ability to make a book tight and concise, yet be respectful of maintaining the author’s unique voice. Not only does she read a manuscript, but she asks great questions regarding events in your work that need to be addressed or require resolution. Along with her expertise in grammar and punctuation, she exemplifies the complete editing package to take authors to the next level. Christy is a valuable resource that our organization will continue to retain and draw from. —Robert Marchuk, Dwell Publishing CEO

Christy did an awesome job on my book. She was always kind, listening to what I had to say, and very easy to work with. She pointed out things I was not aware of, or may have overlooked, in a gentle way. I highly recommend her services. —Debbie L. Mayer, author/speaker

Christy Distler's editorial prowess goes above and beyond excellence. I cannot speak more highly of Christy. Her attention to detail, strong communication skills, and amazing follow-through were completed with the highest of quality. I interviewed over a dozen editors, and it was hands down Christy. She was fast, responsive, and is really an amazing editor! The layout group I worked with also spoke highly of her ability—they never once had to ask her to correct anything. What stood out is that while editing my book, she maintained the spirit of my writing and who I am as an author. She is creative and easy to work with. I will be using her again. —Rita Mayell, author

Christy came highly recommended to me by an editorial director at BroadStreet Publishing Group. She responded promptly and professionally. In addition, she provided a no-cost sample edit of my first chapter. She understood my vision and gave me objective structural feedback that was extremely helpful. I was impressed with Christy’s turnaround time and personal communication throughout the process. I would be confident to refer her services to anyone, and I will be using her again. —Tiffany James, author/speaker
