Overview
"Charlie is the writer's best friend. He's one of us, a brilliant writer in his own right. But more importantly, he has an almost preternatural nose for story, for what works and what doesn't. He will transform your career as well as your craft."
- Jay Bonansinga, the New York Times bestselling author of The Walking Dead: Return to Woodbury and The Killer's Game
"Charlie sets a high bar for literary agents in this industry. He has excellent taste in a broad range of narrative media. He has keen insights into current market trends and needs. He has a steady hand and a level head in rough waters. And he's a brilliant editor in his own right. Best of all, he's fun and funny. We've sold two books in two years together, and in both cases, each one hit the shelf with far more energy, precision, and clarity than the drafts I first handed him."
- Darby McDevitt, Narrative Director of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag & Author of The Halter Series
After spending my earlier years script doctoring and working on commercial, television, and documentary sets, my focus shifted to the book world in 2017. I started at Global Lion under the tutelage of literary maverick Peter Miller, where I became an agent. In January of 2025, I moved from Global Lion to Martin-Newens, where I primarily acquires adult genre fiction and select non-fiction.
As a literary agent, I’ve sold books in a wide variety of genres, including memoirs, cookbooks, science fiction and literary fiction. Being an agent means it's my job to know what editors are looking for and to constantly analyze the marketplace. Not only have I edited countless works, but I utlilize my agenting knowledge to make your book attractive to other agents, and eventually publishers. Despite moving to the book world, I still work with other agents in the film and tv world to try and bring great projects to the silver screen.
Though most of what I've edited separately and sold as an agent is non-fiction, my heart primarily lies in genre fiction; fantasy, sci-fi, and horror. However, I am not limited to those genres. I love literary fiction that feels like something from A.K. Blakemore or Kazuo Ishiguro, for example.
In the past, I ghost wrote several books, and wrote/co-wrote two WGA-approved screenplays, alongside my editing of numerous fiction and non-fiction books.
Like all editors, I provide detailed notes and coverage broken down by sections of world building, plot, character, grammar, and more if needed. All notes are made in manuscript and at the end with a full breakdown. I prefer to be concise, simple and clean in my work.
I hope you'll choose me to help make your book shine. I approach writing and editing more like a craft than an art, building a ship from carefully measured pieces. Of course there is artistry involved in any craft, but we must still use the rights tools, cut once, and measure twice.
