Overview
With an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and a PhD in literary arts, and nearly twenty years of experience in publishing and editing, I have the training to match my deep experience working with writers from around the world at all stages of their careers. I’m also the author of a genre-bending novel for young readers, a memoir, three collections of poetry, and editor of a collection of literary criticism. I specialize in fiction, especially speculative and historical; narrative nonfiction, including memoirs, journalism, and environmental writing; essay collections that are personal, literary, or academic; children's literature; and poetry of all kinds.
I’m a Swiss army knife who can help at any and every step of the way. If you're looking for a collaborator to get your book off the ground, to get it past the first draft, to rethink your current draft globally, to line edit a more polished manuscript, or get it to the finish line, I’m your guy. I tend to collaborate via conversations, consultations, checklists, and deadlines, but I’m always open to developing a collaborative process that works for both of us.
"Broc draws on a broad range of experience in fiction, non-fiction, poetry publishing across academic, trade, and independent presses, guiding an author’s work from concept and draft to finished product with the goal of positioning it within the publishing landscape. Timely, professional, and receptive, he never loses sight of the goal—to prepare the best possible version of the work." --Johanna Drucker
