Andy Harwood – Designer

I'm a book designer and illustrator with a passion for typesetting, and a particular interest in fantasy and science fiction. I have a master's degree in Book Design from the University of Reading, where I learned from some of the world's leading experts in book typography (and wrote a dissertation about the design of pulp sci-fi novels). I currently work as a designer for Clarity Media, which is a small UK-based puzzle company. While working at Clarity, I have designed covers, interiors and illustrations for over 100 puzzle books. I have also laid out puzzle books for major publishers, including HarperCollins and Hinkler, and my illustrations appear on the puzzle page of The i newspaper every Saturday. In addition to my work at Clarity, I also work as a freelance typesetter for the Folio Society, for whom I have typeset thirteen books, including A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons by George RR Martin. I have excellent typographic skills, a strong sense of design, and a quirky illustration style. I can design your book's interior, whether it's filled with text, illustrations, photographs, or all three.
