Andie Carver

Andie Carver – Editor

Andie is a narrative nonfiction writer and editor who specializes in memoir, spirituality, psychology, and activism.

Overview

Hi! I'm Andie, and I would love to help you wrap up your book.

🆓Just by submitting your editing request, you will receive a sample edit from me on the first five pages of your submission, double-spaced. I will use this sample edit to determine the scope of work and, therefore, the cost I will charge per word (see below for details). Please ensure that you submit a Word document as your sample!

Please note: I have a full-time job on top of providing these freelance copyediting services, so depending on when your editing request or messages come in, it may take me up to 48 hours for me to respond.

❓What Kinds of Books Do I Work On?

I have a soft spot for memoir or self-help/memoir hybrids; I even have an MFA in creative nonfiction specifically. I like to read about spiritual awakenings, sex and relationships, psychedelic drugs, redemption arcs, trauma (without traumatizing the reader), activism, and other stuff.

❓What Do My Editing Services Entail?

I offer a unique blend of copyediting and soft developmental coaching services.

My copyediting services include line-level work, and I will consider tone, clarity, flow, and rhythm. Improving syntax and diction while maintaining the author's unique voice is my specialty. I track my changes in Word, so you can clearly see my edits. As I review your book, I will include comments in the margins of the Word document to suggest rearranging or cutting some parts, to let you know how a scene is coming across to me as a reader, or to explain my edits as needed. I include an editor's letter when I turn in the manuscript that lets you know what worked well in the book and what could be improved.

❓What’s the Turnaround Time?

I can have the edited manuscript returned to you in four weeks, assuming your book is between 40,000 and 90,000 words and taking into account the other editing projects I’m juggling. You will receive the edited manuscript, along with your editor’s letter, on the agreed upon completion date, in the evening.

❓How Much Will This Cost?

I charge $0.025 - $0.03 per word for copyediting/soft developmental editing services. I charge a $100 admin fee up front, I charge 30% of the project cost on week three, and I charge the remaining 70% on the agreed upon completion date.

💵Example cost breakdown:

📖Manuscript word count: 50,000

🪙Cost per word: $0.025

💳Due at offer acceptance: $100 admin fee (nonrefundable)

💹Due at week 3: $405 (30%) - nonrefundable if we reach this point

💰Due at week 4 (on due date): $845 (remaining 70%)

Self-employed

Aug, 2014 — Present
I freelanced with Scribe for nearly three years, until it changed ownership. I have been a ghostwriter, structural editor, line editor/copyeditor, and proofreader, but I specialize in copyediting. I have done independent writing and editing for clients since 2014. I have a poetry collection called TRAILER TRASH, originally published through Bottlecap Press, that is poetry-as-memoir.

I’ve read all the self-help books. I know my love languages, my Myers-Briggs results, and my Enneagram score. These tools are supposed to help me understand myself and how to connect with people, but they are all very confusing and difficult to relate to. Intr... read more

Andie didn’t just edit my book — she felt it. She approached Flight of a Dog’s Soul with both precision and heart, treating every line with the care of someone who truly understood what the story meant. Her feedback was thoughtful, her edits seamless, and her empathy rare. If you want an editor w...

Andie did a wonderful job holding my tone in a more complex book layout. Some chapters had multiple styles and she caught the rhythm right away and ran with it. She delivered on time—even after I told her she could take longer because I was too busy to review it immediately. Her background in spi...
