Amy Ewing

Amy Ewing – Editor

I'm a New York Times bestselling author and experienced editor specializing in MG/YA, speculative fiction, and romance.

Overview

I’m a New York Times bestselling author and editor with over a decade of experience in the publishing industry. I work with both indie and traditionally published authors, and I also teach creative writing at the Bronx Loaf Writing Program in New York City. I love everything from quirky, fun middle grade books to sprawling YA fantasies, to adult contemporary romance. If you have a world that needs more crafting, a plot that needs tightening, or a character who doesn’t quite click, I’m here to help!

I’ve worked with authors of all stripes, from professionals to students. But no matter your experience level, I always offer thorough and thoughtful critique designed to improve your work and make your voice shine.

My guiding philosophy is to get you as excited as possible to start the revision process!

Work experience

Bronx Loaf Writing Program

Jul, 2015 — Present

As a creative writing instructor, I've worked with students one-on-one to give personal feedback on their projects as well as facilitating a healthy and encouraging workshop atmosphere for them to be critiqued by their peers. And while I always have a lot of comments, I make sure my students know why I'm giving a certain critique and how to implement the changes to improve their story.

Crooked Lane Books/Alcove Press/Amy E. Editorial

Apr, 2013 — Present

I provide in-depth, developmental edits for authors, from big picture notes to thorough line edits with an eye for smaller details. I've worked on both children's and adult books, on everything from contemporary romance to LGBTQ stories to fantasy/sci-fi. I tend to mark up manuscripts pretty heavily, always with pointed questions designed to improve and enrich the story as well as comments about what I think is working. My aim is always to make your voice and your story as strong as possible!

HarperCollins

May, 2012 — Present

I'm the author of the New York Times bestselling The Lone City trilogy (The Jewel, The White Rose, The Black Key) as well as The Cerulean duology (The Cerulean, The Alcazar). I've also written two novellas, The House of the Stone and Garnet's Story.

Hire Amy. Now. You won't regret it! As a new author, I was really nervous about opening up my project to someone new, but Amy was incredible to work with every step of the way. She was so thorough and really used the pieces I already had in place to help perfectly refine my plot and characters. It felt as if she was in my brain and could see exactly what I wanted to accomplish, and with profess...

I will work with Amy again any time, anywhere. There's a feeling you get as an author when an editor gets you on a fundamental level, and is able to pull out what your subconscious wanted to capture. Amy is just such an editor! Her margin notes and developmental editorial letter were spot-on and have made my novel so, so much better (and, let's be honest, more marketable!). I've had novels out ...

This was my third time working with Amy. Her insight and assistance have been invaluable to me, and I feel like I have learned a lot from her. I believe she has helped me become better at writing, and I've learned some valuable tools in the process. Amy's feedback is presented in a straightforward and respectful manner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her or use her services in the future.
