Overview

I’m a New York Times bestselling author with nine years of experience in the publishing industry. I’m also a creative writing instructor at the Bronx Loaf Writing Program in New York City and I give editorial assessments to children's lit authors. I love everything from contemporary MG to sprawling YA fantasy, though I’m a sucker for a good romance too. If you have a world that needs more crafting, a plot that needs tightening, or a character who doesn’t quite click, I’m here to help!

I’ve worked with authors of all stripes, from professionals to students. But no matter your experience level, I always offer thorough and thoughtful critique designed to improve your work and make your voice shine.

My guiding philosophy is to get you as excited as possible to start the revision process!

Work experience

Creative Writing Instructor

Bronx Loaf Writing Program
July, 2015 – Present (over 7 years)

As a creative writing instructor, I've worked with students one-on-one to give personal feedback on their projects as well as facilitating a healthy and encouraging workshop atmosphere for them to be critiqued by their peers. And while I always have a lot of comments, I make sure my students know why I'm giving a certain critique and how to implement the changes to improve their story.

Freelance Editor

Self Employed
April, 2013 – Present (almost 10 years)

I provide editorial assessments for children's lit authors, both big picture notes and thorough line edits with an eye for smaller details. I mostly work in middle grade and young adult, on everything from contemporary to LGBTQ stories to fantasy/sci-fi. I tend to mark up manuscripts pretty heavily, always with pointed questions designed to improve and enrich the story as well as comments about what I think is working well. My aim is always to make your voice and your story as strong as possible!

Author

HarperCollins
May, 2012 – Present (almost 11 years)

I'm the author of the New York Times bestselling The Lone City trilogy (The Jewel, The White Rose, The Black Key) as well as The Cerulean duology (The Cerulean, The Alcazar). I've also written two novellas, The House of the Stone and Garnet's Story.

Desiree Emme
Amy was very thorough in her review/edit of my manuscript. She helped me see the areas that need work, pacing, character development, what can help strengthen the story, and overall I believe her edits have helped me to see the bigger picture. I loved her comments when she enjoyed something. I think its helped me to become a better writer!
