Alexander Naughton – Designer

Hello.

I am an artist and illustrator based in a little seaside town near Edinburgh, Scotland. If you love weird and wonderful with a hint of social satire then I think we will enjoy working together. My illustrations tend toward surrealism with a hint of the modernist pop-art aesthetic. My inspiration comes from a lifetime of looking at pictures and an obsession with illustration. My clients include, The Guardian, Politico Europe, Edinburgh University and many more.

I work with several writers on a regular basis on Substack where I mainly illustrate essays and articles on philosophy, science, politics, literature and the occasional short story.

It is often a challenge but I love distilling the theme of a piece of writing down to a single image. I believe the design of an illustration is a collaborative piece of art between the writer and the artist and it is a very rewarding process. It gives me immense satisfaction when I can delight a client with an image that serves the writing faithfully but also comes with my own creative flare. I look forward to working with you, whomever you are.
