Overview
"Adam is a truly insightful and thoughtful reader/editor with a deep understanding of picture books. His critiques are to the point, relevant and (most importantly) doable. He really sees the story you are trying to tell and helps to make it the best story it can be. Adam is responsible for some of the best changes I have made in many manuscripts...I would highly recommend him."
-Ellen Tarlow, author of LOOKING FOR SMILE and BECOMING BLUE

After my MFA in fiction, I ran a nonprofit bookstore for many years before making a leap to teach writing in classrooms and community settings. I found my way to kidlit in 2018, first as a writer, then (and now) an editor.
I believe strongly that the seed of a realized project is embedded in its spark. With written critiques, line edits, and optional video or phone call, I help writers identify the core of their work and make decisions from overall concept to word choice.
I love picture books of all stripes, though am not the best fit for rhyme. In the past few years, I have fallen head over heels for middle grade, with a general preference for contemporary and realistic but an open mind and heart for fantasy and other genres. I also feel a personal debt to chapter books for helping encourage my son to read and would be delighted to help bring the next Dory Fantasmagory into the world!
Working with independent publishers means I work closely with all parts of the industry and publishing process, from agents to sales and marketing. I can provide market insights to help you hone your pitch and query package if you are looking for an agent, help you decide what to show your agent next, or set goals and plan for self-publishing.
I am looking forward to learning more about your project!

"Adam's editing was insightful, kind, but direct - the perfect combination. His questions and observations have helped me in my revision process and will certainly improve the finished product."
-Cindy Williams Schrauben, author of THIS COULD BE YOU (my first picture book acquisition!) and a chapter book-in-progress
