Lisha Cauthen

Lisha Cauthen – Editor

I am a fiction, nonfiction, and technical editor and proofreader. I am also a traditionally published author of children's books.

Overview

Finally, it’s finished! You’ve poured your heart into your story for many weeks, months, and years. Now it’s time to clean up your punctuation, spelling, and syntax so your talent can shine. Or maybe you’re looking for a thorough critique that addresses plot, character, structure, consistency, pacing, and style.

I am a technical editor for a growing midsized engineering company and a children’s book author. I received the Ellen Dolan Mentorship Award in 2015 for my YA horror writing; I have delivered writer workshops through SCBWI; and I am a founding member of the popular children’s writers’ website, Sub It Club.

I have been a professional editor and writer for over a decade, working on technical documents and editing many children’s books for all genres and age levels. My two middle grade books, THE GHOSTLY TALES OF PLYMOUTH and THE GHOSTLY TALES OF LAWRENCE debuted in 2022. My nonfiction picture book, YOU ARE HERE, also debuted in 2022. THE GHOSTLY TALES OF SANTA FE is coming soon. I have published flash fiction and provided articles about writing and querying for various writing magazines and websites.

Many writers have appreciated my attention to detail, whether I am proofreading or providing editorial services. I like nothing better than helping a writer put his/her/their best foot forward to acquiring editors or agents.

I know how hard it is to write. I know how hard it is to submit. And I treat all writers as professionals, whether they have been writing for one year or 20. We all started somewhere, and the only way to improve your skills is to write, get feedback, and repeat.

I appreciate your consideration. Whether we end up working together or not, be proud of the hard work you have put into your manuscript. And good luck!

Work experience

Olsson

Sep, 2018 — Present

I edit a wide range of materials to provide consistency, clarity, and adherence to the appropriate style guides. Documents range from wetland delineations, technical memorandums , and manuals to proposals, marketing materials, press releases, and web articles. I appreciate our engineers', scientists', marketers', and other professionals' expertise and enjoy making sure the rest of us can understand their work.

Self-employed

Jan, 2010 — Present

I have been involved in the children's writers community since 2010. I served on the Kansas SCBWI board for many years, wrote and distributed the popular KidLit Scoop, and led workshops and critique groups.

Sometimes, a client only wants a proofread. I am detail-oriented and enjoy the proofreading process.

But if the client wants a thorough edit, we will go spelunking together. I understand how story works and how to help an author find his/her/their way to writing a manuscript that is entertaining and meaningful.

Lisha gave my manuscript fantastic edits that were insightful and well-explained. I am thrilled with her work and believe my story is ten times better. She communicated well and was quick to respond. She was worth every penny spent, and I would love to work with her again on the sequel.
