Overview
I've worked for Big 5 publishing houses for almost thirty years as both an editor and a marketer, acquiring both commercial fiction and nonfiction. I'm especially drawn to romance, women's fiction, historical fiction and narrative nonfiction, but I've also edited many works of suspense, book club fiction, pop culture, and more.
Freelancing allows me to focus on my favorite part of the job: working closely with authors to make their work even better. As a developmental editor, I believe that my job is to help authors craft their stories to best reach the audience they seek, in a spirit of collaboration. At the end of the day, it's your name on the book--I'll give you the best advice I have, but you have the final say.
Here's what some of my former authors and colleagues have to say:
“I have worked with Abby since 2010, and to be honest, I can't imagine writing a book without her. She has a unique ability to respect an author's voice while pushing that author to find the best version of his or her story. I truly can't recommend her highly enough." —Kristin Harmel, New York Times bestselling author
“One of the most creative and intuitive voices in publishing, Abby Zidle has a wonderful eye for words and wit!" —Kristin Dwyer, founder & president of Leo PR
"Abby sees right to the heart of the matter--whether it's a missing element or a plot point that isn't doing its job--with grace and good humor. If you're a writer with the chance to work with her, DO IT!" —Sarah T. Dubb, author of Birding with Benefits
If you're looking for an editor to treat your work with care and sensitivity, I hope you'll reach out!
